                        Who Is He?

"Well, that was close." I said snapping my seat belt as we sped away from Crystal's house.

"Yeah." Kiah said as we went through the green light.

"Well, I guess it's time for me to go home." I said with smile. Kiah nodded as I told him my address.

Then, as Kiah waited at the red light, I looked to see McDonald's, "Ooooh, can we get icecream?" I said as I pointed it.

Is it just me or is everyone else always in the mood for icecream?

Kiah looked at me from the mirror, "Why? You know their icecream machine is probably broken. It's McDonald's."

"But I really really want ice cream." I insisted.

"Yeah sure, I guess we can some, but I'm kind of in the mood for some chocolate, so we're getting hot fudge sundaes instead. Take it or leave it." He said with a smirk.

"Fine." I sighed as he drove up the drive-through.

Sundaes were still icecream, so I just agreed.

Then, the black screen lit up and a voice spoke, "Hi, what would you like to order?"

"I'd like 2 hot fudge sundaes, thanks." Kiah said

"2 hot fudge sundaes?" The voice spoke, confirming the order as the screen lit up and displayed our order.

"Yes." Kiah responded.

"Ok, it's going to $2.70 with tax at the window." The male voice stated.

Kiah pulled up the window with a brown-haired boy with a head set talking and taking an order as he tapped on the computer screen.

He finished the order and turned to us, "2 hot fudge sundaes?" Kiah shook his head.

"$2.83." I naturally reached for my wallet and pulled out 3 dollars.

Kiah stopped me before I reached over him to hand the employee the money," This is still part of our first date. I pay." He said with a smile. I rolled my eyes and put my money back into my wallet. Kiah pulled out a 20 dollar bill and handed to the employee.

"Keep the change." Kiah said with a wink as the employee nodded and handed the sundaes one by one.

I wanted to get angry and preach to him that men don't always have to pay, and women can pay because we are strong individuals, but "knowing" Kiah, I know it would be a waste of many breaths.

After we got the sundaes, Kiah pulled into a empty parking lot, so we could eat.

"How did it feel?" Kiah said looking at me with a smile.

"How did what feel?" I said, scooping some of my sundae into my spoon and bringing it to my lips.

"The rush of breaking free and not following the rules for once in your life. How did it feel to reveal the side of you that you've kept oppressed for so long?" Kiah elaborated.

"It was fun, I guess?" I concluded, taking another spoonful of the sundae.

"Just fun?" He questioned and then ate little bit of his sundae and then mixed around the chocolate a bit, waiting for a better suited answer.

"Well, I felt something. Something exhilarating." Kiah smiled and finished the rest of his sundae, placing the empty cup in the cup holder.

As I went to reach for a napkin, his phone lit up and revealed that it was 1:09. I looked at him in shear terror.

"What's wrong?" He said confused.

"It's really late." I said, panicking. I ate the rest of my sundae and put it in the cup holder next to me.

"What time is it?" He said, and I replied 1:09.

"My mom is going to kill me when she realizes it's 1am, and I'm still not back yet. Can you take me home?" Kiah nodded as he put his keys back into the ignition and drove.

"It's that one." I said as we were coming up to my house.

But instead of pulling up to my house, he stopped the car by a street light and spoke,"Can I say something?" I nodded, and then he grabbed my hand and held it. My heart sped up, catching me off guard.

"This has been the best. I really like spending time with you. I'd like to spend more." He said, warmly.

"I don't think that's a good idea." I interrupted, letting go of his hand.

"Why not? I thought we were having fun." He spoke, looking at me confused and stared at his hand that now stood alone. His face dropped, and he sighed.

"I am. I'm enjoying this." I reassured softly.

I spoke again with a clearer voice, "Honestly, I didn't think I would, but I am."

"Then what's wrong?" He questioned, looking into my eyes.

"I don't know why, but I just don't feel like I can trust you." I said.

"What are you talking about?" He said.

"At the restaurant, when you asked me about my past, it reminded me that I can't trust everyone who claims to want to be in my life."

"But I'm not asking you to trust me. I'm asking you to give me a chance to explore this." Kiah said, looking into my eyes.

"It just scares me because I can't have my life turned upside down again by making the same decisions that almost destroyed my life." I said.

"I just want to keep hanging out with you. This doesn't have to be a serious thing. We can just be friends." He spoke so clear, yet so soft as if he was fragile. I looked at him deeply.

"If you need some time to think about this, I'll give you time." He said, looking down and pressing the unlock button.

The more I looked into his eyes, the more I could feel his rawness and sincerity, and it made me scared. I wanted to believe him. He seemed like a nice guy despite the character he presented to everyone else. I began to wonder if it was a good idea to fall for someone who only showed his good side to people he was interested in. It couldn't be a good idea to fall for someone who went through life wearing a mask, becoming this character that was reckless and full of himself. It probably wasn't, but I was feeling myself fall for him. What type of girl did that make me? After one fancy dinner date and breaking a few laws, I was already starting to like him.

I had to admit it to myself or else I'd go crazy trying to convince myself otherwise. I like him, and I liked being around him.

I looked at him and opened the car door to get out.

"No, you're right. I think I'm taking this too seriously. We're just going to be hanging out so no big deal." I said with a shrug as I got out the car.

He smiled and nodded.

"Yeah, no big deal." He said as he got ready to leave, and I walked to my house.

I walked up to my front door, only to be stopped by a male voice from down the street, "Will you be my date to Senior Prom?"
