Kate awoke to the sound of her name. "Kate!..... Kate!" It sounded far off, but slowly her eyes fluttered open, her bright blue eyes gleamed in the morning light. Her mind was fogged with sleep and her eyes began to droop as she considered sleeping again.

She wasn't sure how long she had been asleep, but the sky was a pale gray as the morning sun began its climb into the sky. A light dew covered everything, the roof, trees, grass, windows, and anything else Kate could see. Along with the dew, a fog hung low over the town, blocking anything over fifteen feet away.

"Kate!... Kate where are you!?!" The familiar voice shouted again, farther away this time.

Kate moaned and closed her eyes, rolling over. "Five more minutes mom..." Kate murmured to her mother, but slowly she opened her eyes, really taking in her surroundings. She was on the church roof, and suddenly the memories of the night before flooded back to her.

"Kate!" The voice shouted, more desperate this time.

She was now wide awake and slid to the edge of the roof. Hesitantly, she jumped from the roof, but she was inexperienced and her knees buckled. Her face plowed the dewed earth and wet grass. She sat up, spitting dirt, grass, and things she didn't want to think about.

"Kate! Over here Smith, I found her!" Roberto shouted, running towards her. "Are you alright? What happened last night? You're bleeding! Let me help." Roberto ranted on, but crouched next to Kate and turned over her hands, to reveal a thick red liquids seeping from the fresh scraps on her palms.

Kate hadn't even realized she was bleeding, but assumed it was from her fall off the roof. "I'm fine... I just scrapped myself up when I jumped from the roof."

"Katherine! What were you doing on the roof?!" Brother Smith questioned, finally making his way over to Roberto and Kate.

"I was sleeping... " Kate replied hesitantly, wincing as Roberto took out a cloth and began to clean her scrapped hands.

"Sleeping?!?" Smith asked.

"Well... not at first. I didn't mean to fall asleep, I just wanted to get away from you two when you were fighting." And it was the truth. Kate didn't like the fact that they were arguing wether or not it was right .for her to know about vampires. What was done was done. She knew about them, and she wasn't about to forget about them.

"I'm sorry Kate... I didn't mean to upset you. I just don't believe you are old enough to know about vampires and werewolves." Roberto said, gently rubbing the cloth in circles on Kate's scrapped palms.

"What's done is done. We can't change the past." Kate said firmly. Roberto was surprised and began to second guess himself. Maybe Kate was old enough to know. Maybe she is more mature than he believed her to originally be. Or maybe the shocking knowledge forced her to mature. Either way, Kate was showing a positive response to the information.

"I couldn't agree more!" Smith said, relieved he hadn't made a mistake.

Roberto brought out a roll of gauze from one of the many pockets in his trench coat. Carefully, Roberto wrapped Kate's palm in a thin layer of gauze.

She stood up and looked down at her clothes. She was still in her nightgown, it was worn with a good amount of mud on them. Kate turned her attention to her feet, which were cut up, bruised, and muddy.

"I-... I think I need some new clothes..." She said, taking in her worn out nightgown.

"We'll it appears so." Smith said, glancing at her outfit, "Should I take you to get your old clothes, or buy you some at the market?"

"I'd like to stop by my house..." She wasn't sure if she really did, but she did want to grab a few things from her house. Afterwards, Kate planned to never step foot in that house again, it stirred haunting memories.
