Magnus rolled over in the white infirmary beds.Everything in the infirmary seemed to be white. The brick walls and wooden doors were painted white. The air smelled of cleaning chemicals, air fresheners, and disinfectants. Magnus wrinkled his nose at the smell of the tacky fruit punch fragrance.

He sat up and winced as his side erupted with stabbing pain. Why was he in here again?... Magnus' memories dribbled into his mind like thick syrup. The new blood got out... He chased her... When he caught up to her... Magnus winced as he recalled the pain of slamming into the wall. He' been sure something had broken and was producing from his side. He glanced at his side which appeared fine, no stochastic or bandages. He frowned, but pushed the oddity to the side. All the memories were vague blurs, he must have hit his head on the wall too.

Magnus dimly remembered the new blood apologizing after she threw him. But he vividly remembered her reaction. Her face had been horrified. Afraid of herself, fearing what was in the future, and terrified of her vampire instincts as they waged war against her.

Magnus had never seen a new blood like that. So afraid of themselves... Old, crips memories flashed through his mind. Pale faces, lips spread wide in happiness, revealing bloody mouths and fangs. The glint of their eyes as they realized their true strength, almost unstoppable. Almost.

Magnus shook the old memories from his head. The new blood wasn't like that at all. Thoughts swirled in his head. He had to talk to her, see how different she was or if it had all been in his head.

His eyes widened. They're going to give her a punishment for this. She'd attacked him, which could possibly end up in her public execution. He had to talk to her though.

Magnus pushed the covers off, ignoring the pain flaring up his side, and swung his feet over the edge. He slipped on his shoes that were tucked under the bed and stood up. He reached the door and was about to open it when the door flew open.

Luke's golden eyes stared at him, filled with surprise.

"Magnus you shouldn't be up!" Luke chided him, as he slipped into the room.

"But I have to see the new blood..." Magnus murmured, slightly embarrassed at his reasoning to leave.

Luke's face switched to a quizzical expression, but he quickly masked the expression. He shook his head sighing, "Now why would you want to do that?"

"She... She apologized after throwing me." Magnus flushed, feeling completely foolish.

Luke suppressed a laugh and mocked, " 'Oh yeah, sorry 'bout that little throwing you into a wall thing. But we're cool right?,' " He laughed. "Yeah she must be real nice."

"No! Not like that! She was actually sincere... And scared."

Luke got quiet, realizing this wasn't a joking matter. Magnus saw what he had. The new blood was different.

"There was something different about her..."Magnus began.

"So you saw it too." Luke concluded. "She isn't an animal like the rest of them. The way Kate showed up, running and scared..." Luke shook his head.

The gears in Magnus' brain began to turn, forming an idea. "Is she the reason you came home? Did she have something to do with your operation?"

Luke nodded, "It's more of a hunch than an operation."

"So can we go see her? Before-before her punishment?" Magnus stumbled over his words, unsure how to approach this.

A friendly vampire? Was it a genius vampire, brewing an evil scheme? He had no clue, and he was going to get to the bottom of this.
