26: to risk it all

"Shit.. shit! shit !shit! Kim Taehyung !!!!" He shouted his own name in frustration. He plopped himself to his bed and kick his blanket in frustration.

Taehyung groaned when he felt a soft tap from his cheek. "V hyung.." the voice continued tapping his cheek. "You said you wanted to go back to Daegu today." His eyes shoot open and cursed when he realised it was already 6 am. "Thanks, Kookie." He said softly before rambling towards the bathroom

The ride back to his hometown was quiet since it was mostly empty. New Years and Christmas has already passed. And he even forgot to celebrate his own birthday since they had award shows schedules. He checked the date and realised that even Jennie's birthday has passed.

He arrived at his parents' house and realised it was empty. He sat down in front of the doorstep and accidentally dozed off tired from the train ride. "Oh my! son." His mother tapped lightly at his cheek. "Hello, mother" He engulfs her in a tight hug. "My son has grown up well huh."

His mother served him some delicacies and they sat at the dining room with his mother staring at him while eating. "Oh, you didn't bring Jennie this time ?" His dad said immediately after entering the house. Taehyung choked and his mother passed him a glass of water. "You guys like her that much huh?" Taehyung questioned and both of his parents nodded eagerly.

"She's perfect for a daughter in law. Even though she was raised in a western country but she didn't forget her roots." His father complimented her. His mother nodded and added "She sent us Ginseng, Red Beet and meat during New Years. Even though she just came to drop it off but we appreciate her thoughts so much."

"She did ?" Taehyung questioned back. "I didn't know." He softly said. "Oh Taehyung we're not pursuing you to like her back but we just want you to be happy with someone as kind and thoughtful as she is. That's all we ask as your parents."

(at the same time)

"Girls !" Jisoo shouted from the living room. Soon all three of them gathered with Jennie being the last to arrive. "Yoongi Oppa just texted me and said that they are planning to throw a surprise party for Taehyung since they didn't do beforehand. "They also invited us and celebrate New Years together. So what do you say ?" All three of them looked at Jennie as if asking for her permission.

"Yeah let's go. Do they have a cake already?" Jennie asked Jisoo and Jisoo type the question back to Yoongi. Not long after that, a response was sent back. "Unfortunately no. He said that he'll have Jimin and Jungkook grabbed some." Jennie nodded and added "Tell him to leave the cake to us. Lisa, would you mind going to the stores and find some fresh strawberries? Bring Rosé too if you want." Both Lisa and Rosé nodded and went to their rooms to get dressed.

"Wait, Jendeuk? You're baking ?" Jennie nodded and Jisoo replied back to Yoongi. "Then, we have to get started am I right ?" Jisoo asked Jennie. She nodded and hear the maknaes shouting "We'll be back soon!"

"So any specific reason you want to bake instead of buying?" Jisoo asked while helping Jennie taking out flour, eggs and butter. "It's more hmmm" she hummed. "Sincerity is more evident I guess." She continued and Jisoo just nodded.

After the mini trip to the groceries, Lisa and Rosé both helped their unnie with baking. "Remember when you two backhug during Blackpink's house ?" The trio laughed at the maknae reminiscing their days back at the house.

They finished their task on time, and they all scurried to their own rooms to freshen up for that night. They all went out of their dorms carrying the cake not forgetting to wear hats and masked to prevent from getting caught.

Taehyung swings around the swing set situated at the playground since he didn't feel like going up to their dorms. The weather was chilly that it sent shivers to his bones hence he had to warm himself in his dorm. It was almost midnight anyway.

The keypad of their locks chimed and Taehyung was bewildered over the fact that his dorm was quiet and dark. He took off his shoes and walk passing the hallway when suddenly a loud screaming and confetti were thrown at him. Jennie walks forward, holding the cake in her hands signalling him to blow the candles.

They ate, danced and sang around. Jennie was judging by the way Jungkook and Lisa kept bickering with one another when Taehyung pulled her towards his room. "What's this ?"

"A surprise party for you and a combine late New Years. Did you not enjoy it ?" Taehyung hands was quick to close the door behind them when they heard Jungkook's and Lisa's voice grew closer towards the room.

"I...." He cut himself off and stare at the beauty in front of him. The gaze that he gave Jennie was alluring that made Jennie returned his stare. Oblivious to the fact that her legs made its way towards his bed. Just one step by him and he had towered over her on the bed.

"Tae..hyung... You..." The tension in the air had made it difficult for Jennie to even say his name. She felt vulnerable from his stare so she avoided it and looked at his lips instead.

And just for one second, she regretted looking at his lips. "Jennie.......". He was licking his now dry lips and in response, Jennie bit her own lips. As Taehyung leaned closer until their forehead touched, Jennie without conscious closed her eyes and he went closer than the tips of their noses met until "Jennie !!! Lalisa !!! We're going home. Let's go."

A sudden call from Jisoo interrupted them Jennie's eyes shot open and Taehyung back away from her. It took Jennie almost a minute to process everything that almost happens and when she did, she got up from the bed avoiding his gaze and hiding her own face with her palms before walking out of his room.

Taehyung was also processing everything that he almost did and ruffled his hair in frustration and embarrassment over what he almost did. Jungkook entered his room and sat laid down on the older one's bed in devastation.

"What happened?" Taehyung pushed aside his own problems as he needs a distraction.
