Kara

I wake to bright lights in my face and overlapping voices. I groan, trying to scoot away from the assault of-wait. Voices. People. People are here around me. I feel grass under my broken body instead of concrete and notice the absence of the ankle restraint. How'd I get out? What happened? Where am I?

"Sir, we found her," someone says.

     A pause.

"He'll be here in a minute," the guy who first spoke says to someone else.

That immediately gets me awake and alert. Rex. He probably found me and is trying to get me back into his torture chamber. The thought has ice running through my veins. I can't go back there. God, no. I sit up, moaning and wincing in pain. People immediately swarm me and lay me back down. Flashlights blind me and I can't even see those around me. It must be dark outside.

"Get away!" I slap people's hands away in hysterics.

"Hey, stop, you're-"

"Get the fuck away from me!" I yell, doing the best I can to scoot myself away from everyone.

Every movement feels like torture to my beaten body. My chest hurts as my breathing rate increases. I start wheezing and coughing. Broken ribs, damnit. I cry out, not able to stop the tears that make their way down my face. I groan, slumping back down and laying in the grass. I can't do this anymore. Someone just kill me.

I give up. I'm so done with this shit. Don't with Rex. Done with Cain. Done with life. I can't do it.

"Oh, god," I hear a voice and footsteps approaching.

People's voices quiet into low murmurs and whispers.

"Kill me. Please just end it already," I cry, not even bothering to hide my desperation.

"Shh, it's okay. You're gonna be alright, love," I hear someone familiar.

I know the voice, but it's impossible. He can't be here. God, I've officially made it past the crazy point and now I'm imagining things, putting voices of strangers to people I love. Despair suffocates me in an oppressive grip.

I feel hands pick me up, but I swat them away. I'm no match for whoever's really here and I'm carried off the ground, the feeling of weightlessness coming over me. I moan, feeling myself being readjusted in my capturer's arms. I push myself away from the chest I'm held against, but my efforts are for nothing as the arms wrapped around me hold me tightly. People speak around me and I just want to scream.

"Please, no more," I breathe out, keeping my eyes shut, not wanting to blind myself again.

"It's okay, Kara. I've got you," I hear him say.

"No. No, you're not really here," I whimper in disappointment.

The person carrying me stops and I feel grass on my legs again. My back rests on my capturer's legs and I turn to roll away.

"Flashlights off. Now," he orders.

I hear the clicking of everyone shutting them off. Fingers brush through my hair and everything gets eerily quiet.

"Kara? Hey, open those beautiful eyes for me, love," I hear Cain's voice.

"You're not him," I say, my breathing picking up.
