Shehry's POV

I sat in my office, twirling a pen absentmindedly between my fingers. My mind was running at a million miles per minute.

Two weeks had passed since I'd placed my wish of marrying Sakinah at the earliest in front of my parents. In these two weeks, the only form of communication I'd had with Sakinah was over the phone. I had yet to see her, though Ayaan had been giving me stringent updates on how she was eating less and getting lost in thought more. She wasn't getting adequate sleep either, and we were afraid she'd fall sick.

Parveen Aunty's words had hurt her deep, and I knew that seeing me only reminded her of the disgusting things she'd been accused of. I wanted to remove those things, make her believe that I didn't think less of her for past decisions and painful yesterdays.

Her decisions had ultimately led to the safety and security of both herself and her siblings. She'd willingly taken on the responsibility of three young children at the ripe age of 17.

From whatever Hussain told me, I gauged that Sakinah was quite used to taking care of her siblings. She'd been doing it since her mother passed away. The bond between the four that I'd noticed the first time I met them was evidence of the fact.

A knock sounded at the door. I called out for the person to come in.

"Sir, you have a meeting in ten minutes." Nasir came in with three files, probably pertinent to the upcoming meeting. I face-palmed myself, thankful that my secretary thought to remind me.

"Oh shit." I'd completely forgotten about it. Dad had been expecting me to present to potential suppliers at the meeting. I had my presentation ready but somehow I must've lost track of time.

"Main saari files le aaya hoon, aap dekh lijiyega." Nasir looked at me knowingly but didn't bring up my spacing-out. I'd been doing that a lot lately, thinking meticulously over many things. "Sir, agar aap bura na maane toh ek baat poochoon?"

Nasir had been working with us for the past year, and he was exceptional at his job. In all the secretaries we'd had at this office, he was definitely the best. Always on his toes. He was never afraid to tell me off when I was wrong. I admired him greatly for not being afraid to put forth opinions and correct others when the situation allowed for it.

"Kitni dafa kaha hai, tum mujhe 'tum' keh kar bula sakte ho, aur yeh 'sir' bolne ki zaroorat nahi hai. Just call me Shehry." I set the pen down. "Poocho."

"Aap kisi wajah se pareshaan hai?" He asked, twisting his fingers slightly. I bit back a flash of exasperation at his dismissal of my earlier words. A flash of metal on his left hand caught my eye.

"Tumhaari shaadi ho chuki hai?" Nasir looked down to where my gaze was fixed; on his left hand, there was a simple band symbolizing his married status. A soft smile spread across his face as he looked up to me.

"Jee sir, teen saal ho gaye." My eyebrows shot up in surprise.

"Itni jaldi shaadi ki? Love marriage thi?" I was curious to know how people came to such big decisions.

"Nahi, arranged marriage, lekin waqt ke saath pyaar ho gaya." A blush coloured his face. "Aur hamari shaadi jaldi iss liye ho gayi thi kyun ki Sayyeda ke walid ki khwahish thi, unki ikloti beti ki rukhsati khud apne haathon se kare. Tab unki tabiyat bhi theek nahi thi, iss liye jaldi kara di gayi."
