Prologue
As I stood there watching Aiden die slowly, just like Allison had... I knew it wasn't going to be steady from there on out.
The past year had only been the start of dangerous things. From then on, we'd all be dealing with our own safety.
After so long of trying to save our friends, we never believed in saving ourselves.
I couldn't imagine watching anyone else die. I couldn't imagine what it would be like for my friends to see me go either.
In the supernatural world, humans can only do so much, and healing isn't one of them.
"Scott." I breathed, my voice distant and my eyes uncontrollably watering.
He held me tighter as we both watched Aiden fall to the ground; motionless.
No words were needed. Not from my brother, from me, or from anyone.
We all knew.
Allison and Aiden had been taken away from the people that loved them.
And soon, we all would follow.
