The next morning, Arjun was sitting across his father, the current ruler of the estate of Jaipur, Raja Uday, in the scenic lawn of their grand ancestral palace.
"How did the meeting go, Arjun?" Uday enquired, sipping his tea.
"It was good. The deal will definitely be ours," Arjun replied with determination.
"I have something to talk to you about," Uday leaned back in his chair and started, "Beta, after me you're going to become the Raja and that day is not far. No wonder how much time I have left in this world. I have only one wish... I want to see you get married before I die."
"Baba-sa, nothing will happen to you. Why do you keep saying this time and again?" Arjun frowned.
"Don't try to divert the topic," Uday stated sternly.
Arjun was about to say something but his father clasped both his hands and continued, "I know very well why you don't want to get married. But that is your personal problem. Don't forget that we are the royals of Jaipur and this estate is our responsibility. Our personal issues shouldn't be obstructing us from fulfilling our duties as royals. Look, I know the monarchy system has ended years ago but the people of Jaipur have been trusting our lineage for decades now. Even today if they face any trouble, they will come to us first. If not for anyone else, think about those innocent people, beta... For them we are their leaders who'll never let anything bad befall on them. If our lineage ends and someone else takes our place, what will happen to them? They won't be able to trust them the way they trust us. We have to continue our ancestry for their sake at least. You might not need a wife, but this estate needs its rightful Rani and heir."
"Why does it have to be me only? Gayatri can also carry our ancestry forward?" Arjun tried reason.
"You are forgetting that she is betrothed to Jai. She'll eventually be the Rani of Pathankot and move there. Neither can she handle this estate from there nor can we expect Jai to move here. After all, he is the only living royal of Pathankot."
"Then why was I betrothed to that Yuvrani, Baba-sa? How would have we handled two estates from one place?" Arjun questioned in a low and hurt tone, looking straight into his father's eyes.

Raja Tetar Singh wants to marry off his daughter, Rajkumari Bhavya, to you. Honestly, even I want this alliance to formalize. Think as Yuvraj Arjun, not as Arjun and then take the decision." He got up to leave.
