How Nightmare Steve Returned

I've been wanting to do this for a while.

I still can't wrap my head around this. When Nightmare Steve first died for some reason it wasn't quite right. I just wasn't satisfied, and I felt there was a missing piece. I guess I aspected him to come back, and I guess I got what I wanted? Seriously though. Was I the only one that saw the portal in the tomb? I saw so many comments on how to solve the riddle yet non of them noticed the exact formation of a portal covered in gold I repeat GOLD, which is what colour Nightmare is?!?! But I'm getting ahead of myself again.

There are three possible ways for Nightmare Steve to return.

1. He didn't actually die. Nightmare Steve could have faked his death and acted out his plummet to appending doom. Here's what I think. Nightmare Steve CLONED HIMSElF before battling Saber. It would explain why he was so weak like what Saber said before. Turning into two separate people means splitting up the power making both of them weak. While the clone died, Nightmare retreated to the nightmare dimension to become stronger. Although it doesn't explain how Light Steve came back.

2. He was accidentally resurrected. When Saber and Lucas were desperate, they attempted to bring Nightmare back. Though it didn't work, or so they thought. Maybe Nightmare Steve was sent to the nightmare dimension so the lightning wouldn't have been heard. Soon Nightmare created the portal to the overworld and placed it in the catacombs, Which would explain how it came to be.

3. He was in Light Steve the whole time. Once Light Steve was brought back, maybe there was a special edition to him. Itvcould quite possibly explain how what looked like Light Steve acted so weird. Here's the story: Light Steve was brought back, but he wasn't in control. Nightmare Steve ran away in Light's body and escaped while hurting Rainbow Steve.
Soon after Reverse Steve was defeated, and?the trio tried to bring back Light Steve a second time. Instead of resurrection, it was teleportation, and Light was in control again when that happened.
Time flies by and Light and Green meet. Green is hostile because something is off with Light. He senses a different presence. And it's not friendly.
More time goes by and we have no idea where Light is. After Rainbow was... murdered, Light Steve went so insane with this uninvited host that he wandered around endlessly.
The trio soon finds him and try to help him with regaining memory from his amnesia. However the experiment failed, and made Nightmare Steve more powerful inside Light Steve. Light Steve's eyes turn red and he decides to rein havoc. He cloned himself, made a giant lab, and created a portal to the NIGHTMARE DIMENSION! Fortunately Lucas and Silver Steve (the Light Steve clone) capture him and release Light from this possession. The skin of Nightmare Steve is so distorted from being trapped for so long that he is unrecognizable, So no one knew who he was; Giving him the advantage of surprise.

And that's about it.
