MAHRAM (pl. mahaarim): those people who are forbidden for us to marry with.
When we speak of our mahaarim, it is those people for whom hijaab doesn't have to be observed/observed so strictly for.
(eg Hijaab for mahaarim by marriage is to be observed to some degree. A man has to exercise caution for his stepdaughter. This will apply to step-great granddaughters, etc. The same applies to a woman with stepsons and step grandsons, etc.)
MAHAARIM FOR WOMEN:
1. By blood-relations:
•Father
•Full- and half brothers
•Sons•Maternal and paternal grandfathers and great - grandfathers and great-great grandfathers
•Full and half brothers of both mother and father
•Sons of full and half siblings
•Full and half brothers of grandparents (e.g. brother of mother's mother/ brother of father's father)
•Grandsons of full and half siblings
2. By marriage:
•Obviously, husband
•Father-in-law
•Sons of husband (from previous marriage) (Stepsons)
•Step father
3. By Radhaa' (Foster-relations):
Those relations occur when one suckled on a woman as an infant, other than your biological mother. This woman and her husband become your foster (milk)-parents.
•The mahaarim by foster-suckling is the same as blood-relations.
