I LOVE CRICKET AS A NARRATOR! SHE'S GOING TO BE THE BEST!
And OF COURSE, the first chapter ends on a cliffhanger, too, but I'll let you read it to understand it.
If you've already read it-
Who do you think is in the caves? My bet is Swordtail or Sundew. Or both. Or it's Sundew, dragging Swordtail in by his ear and yelling at him for being stupid enough to try and fly after Luna.
Imma just analyze EVERYTHING we know so far and make some guesses.
1. Cricket says that her parents- specifically her mother- hate her.
My guess is that Cricket's mother isn't ACTUALLY her mother, that her father had an affair with someone or something and her parents covered it up, and passed Cricket off as their daughter. And THAT'S why Cricket is immune to Queen Wasp, AND it's why her mother resents her- because she's not her daughter. As to WHO Cricket's mother really is, a few guesses.
-Some random SilkWing. SilkWings aren't affected by Wasp's mind control, so her hybridization is why she's immune.
-Some random LeafWing. Same reasoning as SilkWings, but maybe LeafWings are just immune to mind control/mind-reading in general, and that's why the HiveWings wanted to wipe them out- because they couldn't control them.
-Some random dragon from Pyrrhia who was found and 'mysteriously disappeared' *cough* Was probably killed by Wasp *cough*
-Queen Wasp herself. Think about it. Maybe Wasp can't mind control her own flesh and blood?
This theory also works if Cricket's MOTHER is the one who had an affair, and she dislikes her daughter because she blames Cricket for her ruined marriage, and probably the downfall of the affair, so Cricket is also a constant reminder of everything that went wrong in her mother's life.
2. Katydid knows everything.
Cricket has said that Katydid is the only dragon she loves, and the one she confides everything in. Katydid is also described as the one dragon keeping her entire family from imploding. So, Katydid, I assume, knows why her parents and mother imparticular, hates Cricket, and I think she may have a theory why Cricket is immune, but she doesn't share it with her sister in order to protect her.
3. Swordtail is fine, heartbroken, and is not only going to be in book 12, but will be a total lovesick puppy.
In the WOFWiki article on book 12, I got the impression that Swordtail was definitely going to play a part, which MEANS he didn't get sucked out to see like Luna, and he's still presumably on Pantala. I assume he's physically fine then, but emotionally? We know that Luna is on Pyrrhia, but that the other characters don't know what happened to her. In that case....
Sundew: Won't care.
Cricket: Will be worried because Blue's worried.
Blue: Will be mildly to highly concerned.
Swordtail: Will be FREAKING OUT and THROWING SHIT.
Probably not a wise idea to give him anymore of that green stuff in this book.
But still, we're probably going to have to deal with Swordtail's worry and angst and heartsickness over losing Luna, and that's just....FEELS and SHIP at the same time.
THREE MOONS I WANT TO SCREAM JUST THINKING ABOUT SWORDTAIL'S REACTION IN THIS BOOK.
4. Epilogue check-ins.
If Pyrrhia doesn't come into play in book 12, then I DEMAND there be an arc books 16-20 just for the Pyrrhia-Pantala crossover. But, like book 11, I think that book 12 will continue what 11 started, and only mention how Moon and Qibli are doing with Luna and Jerboa in the epilogues. This, to me, is pure torture, but we should all expect torture when deciding to read these books.
I mean, nothing she throws at us can be worse then the heart-stopping cliffhangers of books 8 and 9's epilogues, right?
...........RIGHT????
I think that's all I've got for now. I'll add more once I reread chapter one 70 more times.
And just think....
The people who read these books once the entire series is published?
They will NEVER UNDERSTAND THE STRUGGLE OF WAITING FOR THE NEXT BOOK.
