They had picked the perfect day to do it: Christmas Eve.

They took every precaution they could. Jesse told Reyes that he was slowly getting information out of him, but it would take about a month before they had the full story. The commander believed him, which made it easy for them to slip under his radar.

Genji had been told the plan, and he was on board with it. He knew where they had stashed Hanzo's bow and arrows, and he knew the best ways to slip out of the base unnoticed. "Just contact me every now and then," he murmured to his brother.

They had bags packed with basic supplies and appearance changers. Wash out hair dye. Makeup. Fake I.Ds. Whatever would help them escape the eyes of Blackwatch.

They put their plan in motion when it got dark. The ravenet was already waiting for McCree by the interrogation room. The moment he spotted him, his eyes lit up. "Ready?"

"Ready enough," he answered, coming to stand beside him. "We just gotta get yer now and run." He looked the Asian up and down. "Aren't you eager to leave..."

"Of course I am!" he whisper-shouted. "I'm running away with the love of my life. It's a dream come true."

Jesse decided to ignore the fact that Hanzo's dream guy was literally a fellow runaway who would whisk him away from his problems. He also ignored the fact that he was currently fitting the role perfectly. Instead, he smiled and took his hand, mumbling something similar to "Let's go."

They took some of the forgotten and closed hallways, slowly making their way to the back of the base. On their way, the cowboy spotted the spare weapons storage room.

"It's in there," he said softly, waiting for one of the guards to pass. To his surprise, the archer sprung up behind the guard and muffled him. In less than a minute, he was out cold.

McCree fought the urge to whistle. "You're really good at that..."

Hanzo nodded and started off to the storage room. He put his hand an the doorknob, took a deep breath, and turned it. As Genji had promised, it was unlocked.

The slipped inside and ducked behind some boxes of ammo. The Shimada started scanning the room, looking for his iconic stormbow. "Is archery not practiced here, or am I blind?"

"Both," the southerner answered, picking his blue bow off the ground and holding it out to him. "Any sign of the arrows?"

They glanced towards the ammo boxes and laid eyes on them. As they did so they heard a shout. "Who's there?"

They both pressed themselves to the back wall and slid down it. A shadow fell on the floor, showing the outline of one of the guards. They stayed quiet as he stood there.

After a moment, the guard muttered, "I'm gonna kill whoever left this door open..." They walked the light disappear and heard the door click twice. Jesse let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.

The bowman immediately started asking questions as he snatched up his arrows. "Did they just lock the door? Do they know we're here? How are we going to get out?"

The brunet was surprised to see the usually reserved male in a panic. He scanned the walls looking for a way out. His gaze stopped on an air vent and he smirked. "If there's a vent, there's a way."

Another hour had passed before they made it out of the air vents. They dropped down in a hallway, Hanzo landing in a crouch and McCree having to roll. When they stood up, they saw what they needed: a fire exit.

The ravenet was already walking towards it in great strides. "If we can do this right, we can disarm the alarm."

The cowboy followed him. "You have more experience than me."

With a sigh, the Shimada pulled out a stolen walkie-talkie. "Genji, shut off the power to Building C."

The hall was shrouded in darkness in a matter of seconds. Confused shouting came from farther down the base. While the gunslinger couldn't see, he heard the other messing with the fire alarm.

"Come on..." he murmured, trying to get it to work. They heard a click, and the door opened without a sound. He exchanged a glance with Jesse and grinned. Then they ran out onto the snow.

"We did it!" The Asian laughed, sounding as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. He spun around and grabbed the southerner's hand. "We're free from this hell!"

The brunet laughed and rolled his eyes. "Speak for yerself..." After a moment, he pulled him into a hug. "At least we made it..."

That's when the alarm sounded.

A feeling of dread washed over them as they heard the sound of startled Blackwatch members. McCree couldn't help but sigh. "There ain't never enough time," he thought, hugging Hanzo a little tighter. "Never enough..."

The archer pulled away reluctantly and looked up at him. "We should move, before someone finds out where we are."

"We won't make it," the American said bluntly. "The gate that lead to the Mexican border is too far from here. One of us will be spotted before we climb over it."

The giddy expression was slowly leaving the ravenet's face. "What are you saying...?"

"I'm tellin' you to go." In the distance, he could hear Gabriel yelling about a security breach. "I'm not gonna make it, 'specially with this arm. 'Sides, you'd have a chance at freedom again." He looked back at the building nervously. "Though I hate it, I belong here."

Hanzo stared up at him in shock. "We'll still keep in touch, right?"

"'Course. Send me letters. I'll just say it's from my lawyer."

Either he didn't get the joke, or he ignored it. He nodded quickly and looked down at their intertwined fingers. "Okay..."

The cowboy decided to relieve the tension some. "As for our marriage, we can do it over the phone."

He heard a quiet laugh from the Shimada and couldn't help but smile. He squeezed his hand tightly, not wanting this moment to end.

But he knew it had to. He tugged the archer forward and muttered, "Take a right, then a left, and go over the fence. Keep straight and you'll hit the border by sunrise." He pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. "Stay safe, darlin'."

He nodded rapidly, letting go of Jesse's hand. Their fingertips brushed one last time, and then he ran. McCree watched as he did so, seeing the bloody yellow ribbon flying behind him. He was surprised when Hanzo took the ribbon out and threw it behind him. The wind carried it towards the other, getting stuck in the snow halfway. He took a few steps forward and picked it up, staring at it sadly. He looked up and caught the Asian's eye as he was looking back. He tied the ribbon around his wrist.

He stood there, listening to the wind and the frantic shouting and the distant clanging of a chain-length fence.

Eventually, he felt two hands on his arms and his body being dragged back inside. All the while, he didn't take his eyes off of where his lover had ran.
