Good With Your Son

"Mom, can we please go? We are going to miss the game." I turned around to see the puppy dog eyes looking at me from my son.

"We aren't going to miss the game. I think Uncle TJ would get upset with us." I heard him sigh heavy, I laughed.

Growing up TJ and I had always been so close. When he got drafted I would take trips to go see him in St. Louis then he went to Washington and we kinda drifted apart. When I got pregnant with my son, Carter, the first person I wanted to tell was TJ. Before I was able to tell him he told me that Lauren was expecting their first child. The look on his face was the look that I wish Carter's dad had but when I told him he said that he wasn't ready to raise a kid. Once I told TJ I was also having a baby, I thought his smile would fall but it just got bigger.

After having Carter his dad wanted to be part of his life and I knew that Carter should have his father in his life. He ended up getting a job in Texas. He asked me to come with him. I didn't think I would be able to leave my family but my son's father was leaving and so he was my family too. Carter and I tried to see My family as much as possible but it was hard. When TJ would come to Dallas to play the Stars he would stop by or get us tickets to the game to watch him play but none of it was the same. When we would go to Washington to visit Lauren, Lyla, and TJ, Carter would have the time of his life with TJ and Lyla. Now with Leni Carter is always asking to go see them.

Now fast ward to the day before Carter and I left to come to Washington, Carter's dad and I got into a big fight and said he wanted nothing to do with Carter and I. I packed up all of our stuff bought a trailer and took off to Washington to be closer to TJ.

I looked back in the back seat at my son who was ready to go to the game to see his uncle play but the thing was he didn't have an Oshie jersey on he had a Burkakovsky jersey. He asked for it for his birthday last months and TJ got it for him. He didn't understand why. I think he might have been a little hurt, Carter already has an Oshie jersey.

"Hey, buddy why don't now tell me why you wanted a Burkakovsky jersey, while we make our way to the game."

"Because I think he's a cool guy."

"You have never met him though." he has never met any of TJ's teammates.

"I know but I think he's a cool person, mom," I left it at that. We had finally pulled into the parking lot. "Carter now there is going to be a lot of people here so I need you to hold my hand till we get to the suite."

"I can't wait to see uncle TJ!" He jumps out of the car after I opened his door.

"He doesn't know we are here remember." Lauren wanted to surprise him with a visit from us. I surprised them by telling them we are moving here.

The lines to get in were going fast so we didn't have to wait too long. Every time Carter would walk in any area he was in awe like the first time he walked through the doors doesn't matter if he has been here ten times he looks like it's his first.

"Carter!" I heard someone call out my son's name we both turned around, my handheld Carter's a little tighter. As soon Carter saw who called his name he took off I just laughed because the person to call his name was Lyla.

"Hey Y/N How are things?" Lauren walked over with Leni in her arms and gave me a hug.

"Things are good." I turned to Leni, "Come to auntie Y/N" I held out my arms and she came right to me.

"Mommy I didn't know Carter and aunt Y/N were coming!" Lyla said while jumping up and down with a huge smile on her face.

"It was a surprise for you and daddy, he doesn't know either. We are going to surprise him after.
