Imagine Paul taking you to meet his friends Sam and Emily where you learn some highly secretive information, and that your cousin is an even bigger idiot than you gave her credit for (Part 2 of 2).
. .
. .
Parked outside a rather cozy looking home nestled just in front of the woods, Paul cuts the engine to his car and turns towards you. "Sam and Emily are two of the most important people in my life. Before we go in there, all I ask is that you do not stare at Emily. It makes Sam uncomfortable."
"Why would I stare?" You frown.
"You'll see."
Paul exits the car so you quickly follow suit, wrapping your jacket tighter around you. The gravel of the driveway crunches beneath your feet and Paul smiles over his shoulder as you follow him towards the house. A couple, both dark haired and brown skinned, exit the house when you near and from your position you can immediately see why Paul warned you not to stare at the one presumed to be Emily. One side of her face is scarred, though she presents herself proudly and without any insecurity.
"Paul?" She calls out. "Who's this?"
The man you also presume to be Sam shows no emotion in his facial features, though he does shift a step in front of Emily.
Paul chuckles and steps aside, letting you sidle up to him. "Sam. Emily, this is Y/N. She's Bella's cousin." Sam frowns and Emily merely raises an eyebrow in amusement.
"Hello," you politely greet. "Bella and Jacob were arguing, and Paul promised me some warm food. I told him I didn't want to intrude, but he insisted."
"Paul?"
"Sorry, Sam. Bella dragged her out into the cold and started another argument with Jacob. When we were cast off to the side, things just sort of.. clicked. I figured I'd do her a favor and get her someplace warm to wait out their drama."
Sam tenses. "Clicked?"
"Yeah. Clicked." Paul's expression goes a bit.. dreamy and realization seems to dawn on his friends.
You're confused as to why he keeps putting emphasis on the one word, but whatever the reason it seems to put Sam at ease. Emily's small smile widens into something far more friendlier and welcoming, and then both you and Paul are being gestured inside.
"So lunch won't be ready for a couple more hours," Emily says while gesturing to a large covered pot that's steaming, "but I can make you something else if you'd like."
Paul pulls out a chair at the table and you take a seat. "Oh no, it's totally fine. I'm just glad to be out of the cold."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive." Grinning at Emily, you then turn your attention on Sam who takes a seat across from you as Paul takes one next to you. "So I take it you're the apparent gang leader?" Paul groans and Sam snorts, he obviously a little confused. "My idiot cousin comes up with the most ridiculous stories. I'm really sorry about her. I usually do my best to keep her in line, but I'm having an off day today."
"Oh, are you okay? Do you think you're coming down with something?" Emily is quick to question. Even Paul seems a tad bit worried now.
"I'm good. Just had a late shift at the hospital last night and then Bella thought she'd drag me out of bed before I was ready to get up because whatever Bella wants, Bella gets."
"That's kind of rude of her," Emily frowns. She shares a look with Paul and Sam before giving her attention back to you once more, and redirects the topic. "So are you new to Forks?"
