In this first phase, our heart rather than or head rules our belief system as we try to adjust to the idea of living our life without the person we love. Although the relationship is over, we're telling ourselves anything but that.
Against the better judgment of our peers, we can't help but create fantasies of things some how working out. We begin to see glimmers of hope buried in clear indicators that it's over, but we just keep lying to ourselves.
Yet, in the end the truth will always catch up to us.
