Solve a Murder, Kiss the Bride

By: Rosbyne Mitzi M. Garcia

"Okay, so. Are the groom and bride ready to have the potentially best or worst bachelor-slash-bachelorette's party ever?"

"I do!" Dylan and Jennifer chorused.

"Oh brother," Samuel rolled his eyes. "Save your marriage vows later. Let's get this road trip over with."

They turned up the music and blasted Katsilyong Buhangin in the radio. The two cheered and Samuel sighed, starting the car and praying to God to take the wheel from him.

Now, Samuel has good reasons to be a downer.

First of all, he usually joins in because it's actually fun (and sometimes educational) to know how Dylan and Jen ruin anything they touch, but it's past 1 am-- his max limit of fixing consequences that these morons leave in their trail of destruction because he has a heart of gold.

Second, he has literally no idea why the soon-to-be-married couple called him 39 times, when he's taking his well-reserved break from Hell WeekTM and invited him on a road trip approximately 16 hours before their wedding day. As their best man, he should have advised against this, but he's been their wingman since first year of college. It mostly ended up in their favor, anyway.

Or, he hopes it still is.

Lastly, even Sam's the designated driver, he also has no idea where they want to go. His previous experiences didn't help him either because when he went on a road trip with Dylan once to propose to Jennifer, it's a haunted stripper club in the middle of nowhere. Only God knows why they chose it and he tossed the memory into the man things he should just consider normal because Dylan attracts trouble like a magnet.

"There!" Jennifer suddenly grabbed Samuel's shoulder and her head popped beside him, jumpscaring he heck out of him.

"Jesus Christ, don't do that, Jen!" Samuel pleaded as his grip on the steering wheel tightened.

"Oh. Sorry, let's take the narrow dangerous road!"

Deep inside, he could feel so much connection to that line in spiritual level because nothing perfectly describes him better than an insincere apology to his life for taking this road trip of bad life decisions and regret. She pointed at the dirt road with a beheaded sign post that probably says NO ENTRY with a skull sign but he headed that direction anyway.

In the first five minutes on the "dirt road to hell", it was actually peaceful and Sam almost believed in miracles. And when he says peaceful, it meant no mortal threat creeps around them while Paano baa ng Mangarap and other Basil Valdez' hit songs play in the background, and the couple sing a duet only Sam can survive because he's dead inside already.
