There are four candles on the chocolate cake.

The side closest to the birthday girl is slightly damaged.

The relatives and other children present at the party, fortunately, can't see it.

Her mom has spurted some sweet cream there before to cover up the spoilage.

The girl's older brother is sitting in a nearby armchair, licking the chocolate from his bare right foot.

"Come on, Coraline!" Her mother nudges her with tenderness. "It's midnight now. The clock has struck twelve, love. Go on, baby. Make a wish now."

"How lovely she is. Little doll. I just can't believe she is turning four already!" A female voice squeals in the dark.

The sound of a camera is heard, accompanied by a blinding flash, in an intent to make the moment last forever.

Then another one.

Coraline firmly shuts her eyelids and whispers:

"I wish for all of us to go to heaven."

Then, she blows out the candles.

There is a loud explosion.
