The clash of metal against metal sounded through the battle field. The ground soaked in blue and red blood, fallen soldiers and dropped shields. The queen stood high on the battlement. Her long hair flowing around her as her brown eyes scanned over the fight. They are losing ground. A soldier moves his frightened look to her, seeing her eyes closed, utterly still.
The shouts ring out over the battle like ice across steel.
"Our queen is not doing anything! Our queen has accepted our fate!" But they didn't see that their queen was burying down into her power, spiraling down and down. Wrapping her power around herself, pulling it like a blanket around herself. It was her army down there, slamming against the enemy lines. For her. They trained for years, left their families, to fight for her. Their kingdom. For a better world. The words echo in her mind, for a better world. One shrouded in peace. So she wrapped her power around herself tighter still. Gathering it around her still diving down, until she reaches the bottom, briefly landing. Staying there for only a breath. She draws in her power one last time and rushes upwards faster than the northern wind. The queens eyes snap open. The soldiers eyes go wide as he sees the flame that lingers there. Her green eyes now orange with dancing flame. It was her army that was throwing themselves at the lines. It was her army that was being cut down. She would hesitate no longer. Be damned the consequences. She will fight on the front lines. She winds down the steps, her feet blurring and her face emotionless.
This is a vent. I finished my book today. This series has been with me for three years, through the most hellish year of my life and changing school. These characters were my friends. The main character, Aelin, I know this sounds stupid but she gave me the courage to do some things I was terrified of. "If she can take down Maeve by herself than I can do this."
I'll miss these characters. So so much.
