The Real Chapter 13: Thinking of home

It was night time in the Hidden Leaf Village. Many were fast asleep... but not one girl... Sakura Haruno was looking up to the sky, her world felt empty. She missed Naruto and Sasuke... the village wasn't the same without them. It wasn't as bright and energetic as usual.
'Sasuke... Naruto... please be safe. Come back soon. Somehow. Please' Sakura thought as she continued to look at the stars.

Naruto was looking at the night sky as Appa flew. He was thinking about his home. About the Hokage Stone Faces, Ichiraku Ramen, Rock Lee and Might Guy's weird haircut, Kakashi reading his stupid perverted books, Jiraiya and his stupid perverted antics. He missed it all.
"I wonder how Shikamaru, Neji, Choji, Kiba and Akamaru, and Bushy Brows are doing? How are they healing from fighting Orochimaru's goon squad." Naruto thought to himself outloud. Aang happened to hear what Naruto said and looked at him, with a knowing look. His past was painful... his eyes were like his own.
"Who is Orochimaru?" Aang asked.
"He's an evil bastard who wants to destroy my home as well as corrupt Sasuke so he can steal his body and get Sasuke's powers." Naruto replied. Aang nodded. There was more to this Orochimaru guy that Naruto had a clear hatred of, but he wouldn't pry now.  Naruto would tell them in due time. Aang started to look at the sky himself, thinking of Monk Gyatso and the Southern Air Temple of the past. Naruto took off his headband and looked at the logo on it's metal plate. The symbol of the Hidden Leaf. This was the logo of a shinobi of the Leaf. The logo that Iruka had deemed him worthy enough to wear. Naruto smirked and put the headband back on, a new look of determination in his eyes.
"Somehow, I'll find a way back home. After all... I need to become Hokage someday, and I'll reach that goal... I'll never give up! Believe it!" Naruto declared.

General Iroh was looking at the night sky as his ship continued to try to follow the trail of the Avatar and Naruto Uzumaki. Iroh sighed as he saw the stars. How Lu Ten loved the stars in the sky. Iroh sighed as he thought of his deceased son. The pain never truly went away. Even now... Lu Ten was a hole in his heart.
'Save a place for me at the Pai Sho table in the spirit world, my son. I'll join you one day.' Iroh thought somberly. Iroh snapped out of his thoughts when he noticed Prince Zuko and Sasuke Uchiha also looking up in the sky at different parts of the ship. Iroh sighed as he saw his 'second son' stare into the sky... a rare moment of vulnerability was upon both Zuko and Sasuke. Two souls that had a corrupted sense of hope. Two souls that Iroh's heart bled for.

Sasuke Uchiha thought of the night his family was murdered by Itachi as he looked at the night sky. He thought of the potential power Orochimaru could give him. Power he'd need in order to end Itachi. Power that was now unreachable due to the interference of Naruto.
'Mother.... Father... I promise... I will find a way home. Then I will grow stronger. I WILL avenge your deaths. I WILL be the one that kills Itachi!' Sasuke thought.
'I WILL find my way back to Orochimaru!'

Prince Zuko was thinking of his life before the war meeting that changed his life. Before his father had burned his face during an agni kai, a battle that Zuko refused to fight. He remembered the love of his mother, the happiness of getting gifts from his uncle. Zuko pulled out his pearl-handled dagger, a gift from Iroh from back when he was a general, instead of a retired one. He sighed. Zuko had been so cheerful and carefree back then. How he yearned for the day when he could have a carefree life once again.
'I will capture the Avatar. I will bring him to my father and I will restore my honor.' Zuko thought.

Naruto, Sasuke, Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko... each looked up to the sky as they thought of their dreams.
'I will save Sasuke and one day I'll become Hokage!'
'I will slay Itachi and avenge the Uchiha clan!'
'I will return peace to the world and end this war'
'I will learn waterbending and help Aang end the war'
'I will make my dad proud by making a difference in this war with my friends.'
'I will capture the Avatar and restore my honor!'

'Because that is the path I choose now'

Author note: Short chapter, since this is kind of a filler chapter. I decided that I will not be adapting The Storm, nor the Blue Spirit episode into this series. Not because I don't like the episodes (I think both episodes are great) but actually because even with Naruto in these episodes.... nothing much would change. The point of this series is to retell Avatar with a twist, not just retell it the same way we know.  Now, The Storm and The Blue Spirit episodes are still canon to this series, they just happen in a way that's so close to canon that neither story would be fun retelling. That said, the next chapter will be an adaptation of The Fortune Teller. See you guys there. ~Sage
