Chapter 17: Bato of the Water Tribe

Naruto and the others were exploring the area they had rested in the night before, after Naruto had talked about his first encounter with Orochimaru. As the team was walking around, Aang noticed a strange sword on the ground. He pulled it out of the ground.
"Hey, look. A sword made out of a whale's tooth." Aang said in awe as Sokka slid near him.
"Let me see that." Sokka said. Aang passed it over to him, and Sokka walked forward a bit before he started to look at the sword, noticing it's details.
"What's wrong with the sword, Sokka?" Naruto asked curiously.
"Nothing. I recognize the design. It's a Water Tribe weapon. See if you can find anything else." Sokka informed his friends as he turned to look at Naruto and Aang. Naruto nodded before he created two shadow clones to help him look. As the boys looked for more Water Tribe items, Katara caught up with them.
"Did someone lose something?" Katara asked curiously.
"No. We found a Water Tribe sword!" Naruto replied. A Naruto clone then moved some leaves away from Sokka's location.
"Hey, Sokka. Look at this." the Naruto clone called. Sokka walked over to him. The clone had found a broken spear head. Sokka grabbed the spear head and observed it.
"It's burned." Sokka said before he turned around to see a tree with scorch marks.
"There was a battle. Water Tribe warriors ambused a group of fire benders. The firebenders fought back, but the warriors drove them down this hill." Sokka informed them as he touched the tree then took off down the hill. Naruto wondered how Sokka could know that.
"Sometimes, Sokka can be as smart as Shikamaru." Naruto said to himself in awe as he followed behind Sokka, followed by Aang and Katara. The team then ran into an empty battlefield.
"So then what happened?" Aang asked, interested where this story was going.
"I don't know. The trail ends here." Sokka replied dejectedly before Naruto dispelled his clones. Katara then noticed a ship.
"Wait, look." Katara said, pointing at the ship.
"It's one of our boats!" Sokka exclaimed before he and Katara took off running.
"Hey, wait for me!" Naruto called as he followed them, leaving Aang standing on the beach, before he too decided to follow them. Katara and Sokka then got close to it and started to inspect it.
"Is this Dad's boat?" Katara asked.
"No. But it's from his fleet. Dad was here" Sokka answered, looking at Katara.

Meanwhile:
Iroh was drinking some tea on board Zuko's ship. Sitting with him on the small table in the room was Zuko and Sasuke Uchiha.
"Aaah. See Prince Zuko, Sasuke Uchiha, a moment of quiet is good for your mental wellbeing." Iroh told them.
"Maybe." Sasuke replied as he started to drink some tea. He found that he rather liked Iroh's tea. As Zuko brought his cup to his lips, a loud banging sound was heard and the tea was knocked into Zuko's face, angering the prince. Sasuke and Zuko stood up to investigate.

On the ship there was a woman riding on the back of a strange, ant eater like animal.
"Get back! We're after a stowaway!" The woman ordered the Fire Nation soldiers that had attacked her. The soldiers stepped back, fearful of the giant animal they faced. Sasuke, Zuko, and Iroh walked over to the woman.
"I doubt there could be a stowaway on this boat. They would not be able to get passed me." Sasuke replied as he activated his Sharingan to prove a point. The animal bit a piece of the floor and tossed it over the heads of the Fire Nation soldiers, Sasuke and crew included. The animal sniffed into the hole it created and located the stowaway hiding in a barrel. The barrel fell that the man started to run. The man started to run away from the animal, surprising Sasuke and Zuko.
'How could I have not have seen him?' Sasuke thought before the animal whipped it tounge at the stowaway, and the man fell to the ground.
"He's paralyzed." Zuko said in awe. The woman jumped off the animal and lifted the man by his shirt.
"Only temporarily. The toxins should wear off in about an hour. Then he'll be in jail and I'll have my money." the woman informed them as she put the man over her shoulder.
"But how did you find him on my ship? Not even Sasuke, this young man right here with a special talent for seeing things other don't, was unable to detect him." Zuko asked as the woman got back on her mount.
"My shirshu could smell a rat a continent away." the woman answered.
"Well, I'm impressed." Iroh said. The woman cracked hee whip and the shirshu took off from the ship, leaving them behind.
"Vvveeerrrryyy impressed." Iroh said as he stroked his beard. Sasuke and Zuko glared at him.
