Beep. Beep. Beep.

The annoying beeping noise wouldn't stop.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Like a never-ending beat.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

I open my eyes to be welcomed by the harsh light of the light above.

White walls, everywhere.

"Aria?"

I looked to find the source of the voice.

My dad was sitting in a white chair, looking horrible.

He had eye bags underneath his eyes, his hair everywhere because of the many times he probably run his hand through. His eyes, puffy, from the tears that were dried up on his skin.

I was in a hospital room.

I gulped.

" Dad?" I questioned.

Everything felt surreal.

I couldn't tell if I was in a dream, or if I was actually awake.

It was a weird feeling.

Dad let out a sigh of relief and pulled me immediately into a hug.

" I was so scared," he said, his voice muffled in my shoulder.

He finally let go and saw my confused gaze.

" What happened?" I asked, hoping to get an answer for the mess inside my head now.

Dad opened his mouth, to answer the question.

Just when he was about to say something, Doctor Shaun burst into the room.

He had a very big smile on his face when he saw me awake.

This is the first time I ever saw that man smile.

"You're awake!" he exclaimed over enthusiastically.

My eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

What the hell happened to me?

I cleared my throat.

"What happened?" I rasped out.

" You don't remember?" asked Dad, as if he was scared of my answer.

I shook my head.

" We were about to do the second interaction with the merman..." he paused.

Memories flashed inside my head.

The merman saying my name. His singing. The merman saying other words. Falling asleep...

" He spoke." The words left my mouth before I could stop them.

The doctor gave me a weird look.

" Yes, he said your name?" He questioned, as if not understanding what I meant.

" No," I shook my head, " He talked... English." I said.

Did they not hear him?

Both of the men let the topic go.

"Why didn't you tell me that you were a part of this?" My dad said brokenly, changing the subject.

I smiled guiltily and rolled my shoulders in, making myself smaller.

Dad sighed in surrender, knowing how stubborn I could be.

I looked back at Doctor Shaun.

" Why am I awake? Wasn't I supposed to fall into a coma? He sang, didn't he?"
