"okay let's get you cleaned up." archie said to betty, who was sitting on the kitchen island.
his voice drew her from her trance. she had been staring out the window at the rain. the dark, storm clouds brewing above were made invisible by the lack of sun provided at 3am.
everything felt ethereal as she sat there staring at the water trickling down the andrews' kitchen window. almost like that dissociative moment when you look at the person you're with and realize they live in a completely different world then you, and have thoughts and feelings of their own, or when you stare at the stars and realize you're meaningless. it felt like she wasn't really there in her body, and sometimes she wished she wasn't.
she wanted to be outside, the rain cleansing her skin of all sin. she wanted to feel it and smell it. the humidity wrapping it's hand around the back of her neck and the exquisite, earthy smell as the water soaks into the dense soil, and the fresh, nostalgic fragrance is released.
"you really don't have to do this, arch. i can handle it, you should go to bed." she reached for the damp cloth in his hand, but he pulled away.
"no way. you do realize you were just kidnapped, and tortured right? it's okay to be a little selfish sometimes, betts."
a grateful smile was the only response she gave him.
he planted himself between her legs as he dabbed the cloth on her wrists. her cheeks heated up, and flushed with color. how was he so unaffected by everything?
"you want to talk about what just happened?" archie asked her as he gently wiped dry blood off her cheek.
"not right now. i don't want to think about it."
"well, whenever you're ready i'm right here." he stopped wiping her face, and stared into her eyes.
when she glanced in his direction, he didn't look away. he let their eyes lock. his glances were no longer furtive, he wanted them to be noticed, but he didn't know why.
the moment was becoming intense, almost too intense. the pattering of the rain on the roof was becoming even louder as the storm continued to strengthen, but the noise had become lost in the back of betty's mind.
all she could focus on was the fact that archie, her best friend, was centimeters away from her for the second time that night. archie parted his lips. he was as close as the counter would allow. lightning flashed, and betty was in awe of how nice he looked when it lit up his face. her eyes swept over the boy's face, taking in every detail she possibly could. from his carmine hair, to his strong jaw he was perfect in her eyes.
"stop." betty thought to herself.
just think of jughead, but she couldn't. her beanie-wearing boyfriend was far from her mind. all she could think about was what it would be like to kiss her red headed best friend, who happened to be right in front of her.
archie felt himself being pulled in. betty's lips were like an inviting gravitational force, and he couldn't fight gravity.
betty was battling her desire violently inside, but outside she looked perfectly content as she leaned towards archie. her head was screaming stop, but her heart was plugging it's ears.
their lips were centimeters apart, and that's how they remained for a few fleeting moments. the world was blurred around them. the only thing betty could could see and hear was archie. his slow breathing, his deep brown eyes, and his pink lips. the whole situation was making it somewhat difficult for betty to breathe.
"arch." she breathed out. that single word was enough to set archie off, because he finally connected their lips.
the moment their lips touched, archie felt a shock go through his body. the kiss was hesitant, and barely there. his lips brushed softly against betty's. however, when he discovered betty wasn't going to pull away from him, he deepened it. he allowed himself to let go of the fear of rejection he had been holding in.
archie threw himself into the kiss, as did betty. she intertwined her fingers behind his neck as he scooted her flush against him. it felt like this kiss was the only true, right thing in her life, like everything else was a lie. nothing could ever compare to the feelings blossoming inside of betty at that very moment. neither of them wanted this moment to end.
betty finally pulled away. their foreheads remained connected as they both breathed shakily. betty's chest heaved as she attempted to catch her breath. a small smile graced betty's lips, but it disappeared when a knock came from the front door.
"who could that be? it's like 3am." betty asked quietly.
"i don't know, i'll check."
archie hesitated before placing a soft, longing kiss on betty's lips. he had a strange feeling that it may be awhile before he could do it again.
