A/N: thanks for reading! Please tell me what you'd like to see more of or your thoughts and if you want any of these to have another part/chapter.

Reader is in the cult but before Kai goes totally crazy & acts kind of defiantly

He'd been plotting all evening, writing out names and places that could somehow serve him for whatever the next move would be. Kai was already elected to city council but the journey was only beginning; he was prepared for greater things. The laptop keyboard made a continuous clicking noise from all his typing and researching of people currently in office.

I was spending the time exchanging small talk with Winter on the opposite side of the room. Our voices had to be pretty quiet so Kai could concentrate on his plan. The conversation wasn't all that important anyways; we were just waiting on her brother to tell us what the plan was and how we were supposed to contribute. It wasn't until about half an hour later when he stood up proudly, and suddenly, to announce the next course of action.

"We...are going to get rid of the current Senator's previous competitor. The election for that position is coming up in a few months and I heard that the old competitor is up for being a candidate again. Having him mysteriously vanish from the race would draw much more attention to the election and bring suspicious onto our current Senator." Kai declared.

Winter just stared at her brother, knowing that she couldn't change his mind and that he'd already killed for a political position before. I couldn't sit in silence when he told me the plan, especially not when it involved someone unjustly dying.

"Okay Kai, why do you need to go that far?" I questioned.

"It's the best way to get into the position beyond campaigns. Those cost way too much if we do it by routine and I'd rather not risk letting the old man get re-elected for doing nothing." He explained, pacing across the floor.

"You know, it would be possible to solve your problem without using violence and adding to your body count."

"Consider this- I'm good at violence. Also, it's more dramatic and a much faster way of getting the attention we need to win this Senate seat. People love fear, what's scarier than knowing the people meant to take care of you aren't able to do that?"

Kai had a point there, a highly unethical one but still a valid point. I folded my arms over my chest, using a hand to massage away the nervous tension from my forehead. There was no way he could continue to kill for any position he wanted to take, it would become too obvious after a while and it wouldn't be good for his political image. He was going to get caught if he carried on this path.

He looked expectantly at his sister, hoping she would side with his statement or at least nonchalantly nod her head in agreement. I knew that Winter never really approved of anything Kai did or thought but went along because he was her older brother, and the filial ties meant something to her. They had completely opposing political beliefs, as well as one of them not being fond of the idea of murdering people.

I piped up again to break the silence: "Kai, you know you can't keep doing this. They will catch you at some point after connecting the dots."

Winter sensed the tension and excused herself from the room. That left Kai to emphatically reply to me in a tone just under a yell. He was so enthralled and confident in his own plans.

"Who cares? There are plenty of benefits coming from being the Senator. I can get excused for committing any minor crimes while in the position." He shrugged and casually ran a hand through his blue hair.

"Murder is not a minor crime. And any detective with half a brain can see that if there's always a candidate who dies when they're racing in the same election as you, it directs all the blame at you. How many alibis can you make up, Kai?"

He came towards me, temper flaring with every word I spoke.

"I never said I was going to do it every time! And even if I did, there'd be no way to stop me from reaching my purpose in life. Even if the police constantly watch me."

"And the thought of killing a bunch of people then constantly having to hide it away doesn't scare you or at least make you nervous?"

Kneeling down to where I was sitting, Kai made sure he was at eye-level with me and that I could see the very stoic expression he had. He held my chin in place with his hand and responded.

"No. It's my destiny to lead people the right way and nothing can stop me from it. Fear is something I need other people to feel, leading them to put all their faith and trust in me. My fear can't exist." He explained more quietly.

At this point, he seemed to be thinking beyond the regular advancing-on-the-political-hierarchy scheme. Kai started to sound like one of those crazy commune leaders from the 70s or 80s with the talk about destiny and his life purpose. His hand was still firmly holding my head in place as he gazed into my eyes like he was looking for something in them. But the last part almost made it seem like Kai was hiding any vulnerability from assuming his public position.

"Was that supposed to be a confession?" I asked in a hushed tone, suddenly feeling like the proximity required it.

The almost-black brown eyes looking back at me were completely veiled from revealing any response to my question. All Kai did then was gradually close the gap between us. It was strange and completely unexpected, yet not altogether awful. I felt slight tingles in my chest as my heart beat faster in surprise. He, on the other hand, seemed to relax from the contact of our lips after having to heatedly defend his position to me. I used the opportunity to pull myself backwards a little and free myself from his hand's hold on my chin.

"Please promise me you won't go arrange the assassination of the competing candidate?" I stumbled out before he could say anything.

With a sigh, he complied to my wishes.

"Fine. But you'll have to do me a favor in return, even though it won't be any help to the campaign."

"What are you talking about?" I said, turning my head sideways and giving him a confused look.

"I want to build up the support group here beyond just you, Winter, and the few others. We will be absolutely loyal to each other and especially to me. You will be second-in-command, but more importantly the one I see here after the work is done every day."

"So...a roommate?"

"That would be an accurate title. But after feeling all that with only a two-second peck, I can only imagine what even more would be like." He suggested with a lopsided grin and a brief little wink.
