Chapter 5:
> Must've smelled really bad with all boys <

They all ran out of the building, yelling words of encouragement to each other. The alarms were still blaring when they got to the open doors and ran outside. It was dark and windy, sand being blown everywhere, obscuring their vision. They climbed up a steep hill made of sand, with much difficulty. Darcy looked behind her to see guards on some sort of bikes, lights flashing and alarms blaring. Shouts were coming from every direction and she was focusing on trying not to slide down the sand dune that she was climbing. They reached some sort of shelter. The other girl had gone through it, everyone following behind her. In order to get to level ground, you had to go down this big sand dune. Darcy wasn't in the mood. She sat down on her butt and slid down it like a slide and thankfully, it worked.
Minho pulled out a flashlight from who knows where and turned it on. Words were being said but Darcy wasn't listening. She wasn't exactly zoning out either. Maybe she was just in shock.
She tuned into the conversation again when she heard "So what's the plan?"
It was directed at Thomas, who didn't respond, just stared into the distance with his jaw clenched.
"You do have a plan, right?"
"Yeah, I- I don't know," he replied, not making eye contact.
"Well we followed you out here Thomas and now you're saying you have no idea where we're going or what we're doing?"
She had heard the boy speak before but didn't really pick up his accent. It was strange; British maybe?
"Janson mentioned something about a rebellion group in the mountains," Aris mentioned.
"Yeah," said Thomas. "The Right Arm."
"People. In the mountains. Mountain people. That's your plan?"
Thomas was about to respond but was cut off by Winston. "Hey guys, look at this."
He was pointing a flashlight at the ground, where there seemed to be footprints printed into the ground. With no other plan, they all began to follow the footsteps cautiously.
They entered a room that seemed to be full of supplies. She walked over to a crate and found two flashlights, grabbing them, and turned one on. She then handed one to the girl who was the closest person to her. The girl gave her a small smile and murmured, "Thanks."
"I say we look around this place. Might find some useful stuff to pack up," suggested Minho.
Everyone agreed and started looking around. The air was musty and chilly, and Darcy found herself trying to stop from coughing whenever she moved around a box and a cloud of dust erupted. It seemed like no one had been here in a long time.
She looked around more of the crates, and found a bottle, but unfortunately an empty one. She still took it anyway; it might come in useful eventually. She found a small brown backpack, too, and picked it up and put the bottle in it, then put it on her back.
She rummaged through more boxes and found some scarves, jackets, boots and trousers. She took three scarves, a spare pair of trousers, put on a jacket and replaced her shoes with the boots. They were a little big, but they would have to do.
The other girl came up and started looking through the crates beside her.
"What's your name?" she asked quietly.
"Darcy," Darcy mumbled.
"I'm Teresa." She smiled. "So you were in a maze too?"
Darcy nodded her head.
