Steve's POV
After the shower Amanda got dressed then went down stairs to check on the cookies. She put on some blue jeans and my old high school football jersey, with a tank top under it.

I had just put on a clean short sleeve and cargo pants. As I was walking down the stairs I heard music playing. Seeing Amanda dance around the kitchen was so cute, I couldn't help but smile.

If I remember correctly the song is called 'redneck woman' by Gretchen Wilson. While I was watching her I couldn't help but think about what happened last night. 'Why didn't Amanda fight Catherine when she had the right to defend herself.'

"Amanda?" She whipped around almost falling. I quickly went up to her, to try and help but she said she was fine. "I'm curious, why didn't you fight back when Catherine attacked you. You had every right to defend yourself."

"My mother raised me to respect other people's home. She always told me not to fight in their house because something could break. Plus I worked hard baking these cookies and I didn't want to ruin them. I baked these for the kids at the orphanage because I want them to know that they are loved and safe."

There was that smile and sparkle in her eyes that I love so much. I walk into the kitchen and bring her into a hug. "You have such a beautiful soul, I'm so lucky to have you in my life."

Still smiling Amanda wrapped her arms around my neck. "Steven John Mcgarrett you are the best man any girl could as for. You have a pure soul, even with all the baggage we both have, you have been constantly telling me that the baggage doesn't define us. I am so grateful to call you mine. I love you and you're right our past doesn't define us."

What she said had me in tears, I couldn't help it. This woman was willing to deal with my imperfections and be there when I need her most. God I love her, and I would do anything for Amanda. "Ok.... let's get these cookies to the orphanage, before they go bad with us just standing here." I say wiping the tears away. "Right....... whew.... I haven't cried this much in a long time." I bring my hand up to her face creasing her cheek.

Steve's POV
When Amanda and I pulled up to the orphanage, the only thing you can see is a bunch of kids running at us. She gets out and tries to get them out of the street. "John Michael unless you want a time out I suggest you get back onto the side walk now." There was no answer. We look at each other then Amanda goes behind the truck looking for him. What she sees makes her take off in a run. One of the other workers tell me to go, that shell watch the kids.

I never knew Amanda could run so fast. Because before I'm even half way to her, I see Amanda get close to the guy then jump at him. Luckily John was in his left hand, instead of his right.

I finally caught up to them and helped Amanda remove John from the strangers arms. "I'll call this in ok." I tell her. "Do we have anything to keep his hands bound till they get here?" Amanda put out her right wrist, showing some head bands she keeps just in case we need them. "Thanks, John do you know who this man is?" I ask him. He shook his head no and started crying. While I called HPD, I heard Amanda sing a song to comfort John.

When she was done and HPD took the guy away, Amanda gave her statement. We walked back to the truck where Danny was standing with the rest of the kids and our friends. "Hey you guys ok? Duke called saying there was an attempted kid napping. And don't worry about the cookies, we already took them in."

"Thank you." Was all Amanda said. I look at her and all I see is Amanda checking John for any injuries he might have gotten. "I'm fine mama, I didn't get a scratch on me." When I heard him say mama I smiled. Amanda would make a great mother. "Mama? Did you have a kid we didn't know about?" Danny asked.

I was about to say something when Amanda spoke up. "No, when John here was brought to us as a baby, I was his caretaker when I volunteered here. There were times when the other volunteers couldn't get him to sleep, so they would call me. He wouldn't calm down or sleep unless I sang his favorite song about football."

"So in a sense you're his mother and he's your son." Chin said. "Yea, but I love all of the kids all the same. I would do anything for them."

"Like tackle a guy to the ground." Kono chipped in. We all chuckled, "ok let's get inside and have some fun with the kids." Amanda said. I made sure the truck was locked then joined the others at the entrance.
