Part 10~ Premonition

Yamada approaches Chinen who is resting under the tree near the campfire. It's Hikaru and Chinen's turn to patrol for the next few hours. Yamada guesses it must be almost midnight. Feeling the wind touching his face has a new meaning now- he's alive.

"Can I sit with you?"

"Yama-chan!" Chinen seems surprise. "Why aren't you sleeping?"

"I can't sleep. I keep having terrible dreams."

Chinen stays silence, looking at the older boy with sympathy. He knows exactly how it feels- the fear to close your eyes knowing that horrible things waiting in your dreamland.

"Gomen ne Chii," Yamada apologizes. "Sorry for doubting your intuition. If we listened to you from the beginning all of this won't happen. Hontoni gomennasai!"

"It's all right Yama-chan, it's nobody's fault," Chinen tries to calm his friend. "After all you told me that as long as the ten of us are together, we will be fine right? Daijyobu, we'll definitely save them!"

For a moment Yamada seems stun. Chii has change. He's not afraid anymore. He's facing his fear.

"Chii, this may not be appropriate, but can I ask you something?"

"Anything, just spill it."

"Erm...have you got any new 'premonition' recently?"

Chinen frowns. "Are you talking about the dreams?"

Yamada nods. "I just thought if everything has been the same like your dreams then we can use the next one to predict what will happen. But if you don't want to talk about it then it's fine with me. Don't force yourself."

Chinen shakes his head. "Well, yeah... I dream about Yuto last night. You see Yama-chan, I'm not sure if what I saw was something that is taking place or something that is going to happen. And most of the time I don't know who is going to be next. Like I know somebody will be kidnapped but I didn't know that it's going to be Yuto. Do you get what I'm trying to say? Ah... I'm confuse myself."

"How about before we came? Any of your dreams that hasn't becoming true yet?"

The younger boy scratches his head, trying to remember his horrible nightmares. Let's see... the storm, the beach, the wristwatch, the boat, the kidnapping...

"Actually there's one..." Chinen hesitates. "But I don't want this to become reality though."

"What is it?"

Chinen isn't able to continue as Daiki suddenly rushes towards them.

"Where's Hikaru?" Daiki asks the two boys.

Chinen and Yamada look at each other. "He said he'll be on the other side of the hut."

"But he's not."

"What?" Chinen's eyes widen in shock. "Have you checked the trees? He might be resting there."

"Chii, I looked everywhere. He is not around!"

Yamada doesn't feel good about this. He knows Hikaru very well. Hikaru might think that he may be able to talk to Kusano in the name of their 'friendship'. But Kusano is sick- he won't listen to anyone. Yamada becomes anxious. What should I do?

Calm down Ryosuke...This is the time to use all the things you learn in the detective school. Don't panic... you can do this. Kusano isn't here to torture you. Take the role Ryosuke. Think of this as the final exam- you can't graduate if you fail. You must save your friends!
