Swimming

I want to be that comfortable place where you write and read. Watch TV, or deeply breathe.

I've been trying to fill out the list Liza had given me, it was hard, I found myself focusing too hard on having a good time that I couldn't actually enjoy what was going on.

It was weird because afterwards I realized that all the best things were the small things I always tended to overlook. Like the way Jack snorts when he laughs really hard, or the feeling I get when it's rainy outside.

Happiness isn't a switch that I can flip on and off, like Liza said, but I'm seeing glimpses of it now.

"Kellin want to go swimming?" Jack said on his end of the phone.

"What? When?"

"Like, right now?" He pauses, I hear shuffling through the phone. "We can go to the indoor pool, Vic's coming"

"Don't only kids go to the indoor pool?"

"Have you met us." He says giggling. "I just thought since you haven't went swimming in so long," he trails off, sounding sad.

I frown, reminded of why I haven't went swimming in forever.

"What if someone says something?" I say, panicked now.

"No one will, and if someone does, I'll beat them up. You deserve to go swimming and not worry about your scars dude."

"Okay, you're right."

"Dude of course I'm right! I'll be there in 10, get your shit together." He says hanging up, leaving me alone.

————————

"Jack if you pants me once we get out there I will cry!" Vic shrieks laughing, after almost getting his swim shorts pulled down again.

"Vic, I just want to see what you're packing!"

I laugh at their shenanigans, arms crossed protectively over my chest, hiding as much of the scars as possible.

Jack has already ran into the pool, getting a dirty look from the lifeguard and is in line for the slide when Vic puts his hand on my shoulder.

"I'm proud of you." He says softly, barely heard over the sounds of children and Jack. "Let's have some fun?"

"Totally." I say, reaching to pretend and pull his shorts down.

"Not you too!" He exclaims, jumping away. "You can always wait til later for that."

I roll my eyes at him and chase him towards the water where Jack recently got into.

I jump into the water, holding my breath, willing myself to relax and have fun.

I come out of the water, trying to catch my breath when I get splashed in the face. I rub my eyes and see Jack is the culprit. I instantly splash him back, laughing when he yelps in surprise.

Soon we are all splashing each other like a bunch of 6 year olds.

After we went swimming Vic came back to my house with me and we decided to spend our time cuddling.

Music is playing softly in the background but I'm too focused on Vic to pay any attention to it.

My head is on his chest and I can feel the slow rise and fall of his chest. I feel relaxed and safe in his arms, his heartbeat grounding me to reality.

His hand is rubbing up and down my back and his other is playing with my hair. He places a kiss on my neck and I shiver.

"Thank you so much." I mumble into his shirt.

"For what?" He laughs at my antics.

"Today, it was really nice."

I look up from his chest and see he's smiling, he runs his hand down my cheek before putting it back in my hair.

"I'm glad, you deserve nice days."
