Sapphire's POV:

Leading up to September first, professor Snape and I had been spending a lot of time together. Not only was I consulting him on advice for my future career but we were creating study plans for his classes as well. Honestly the whole thing felt like an apprenticeship for becoming a potions professor, but I knew it wasn't. Today was the day everyone would be returning to Hogwarts. Thanks to me being here all through the summer I was able to get my schedule before anyone else. I was actually pretty pleased with the order Snape had put them in. Obviously it had to do with the times the other professors were teaching the subjects also. It was going to be an extremely busy year, but I was so ready to make myself and my professors proud. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to find time to hangout with my friend and spend time with my boyfriend too. But at least my boyfriend is also one of my professors, so I'd get to see him two times a week. I was sitting in my private quarters where Gellert was helping me pack up my stuff. Everyone except for Gellert thought it was a good idea for my to move back into the Slytherin common room. "You know, I'm really gonna miss sleeping next to you at night... among... other things." He said with a smirk on his handsome face as he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close. I giggled and snuggled into his chest. "I know, but that means when we get to cuddle and do... other stuff it'll be even more special." I replied and he gently tightened his arms around me. "I know. I just... I know you're gonna be way more busy this year and I'm gonna miss you." He said before he kissed the top of my head. "I know, but at least I have your class again this year." I said, which made him a little happier. After taking a little break to drink some tea and cuddle, we went back to packing my stuff. Once I had everything packed he helped me take my things to the Slytherin common room. I thanked him but he ended up helping me unpack as well. I thought it was so sweet that he was willing to help me do such a boring task. The only up side is that we were using magic to do everything. If we had to do all of this by hand then it really would be mundane and tiresome. "Well, I better get going. I have a meeting to get to, and I'm sure you need some time to settle back into your dorm." He said as he rubbed the back of his neck. I really wanted him to stay a little longer with me, but I didn't wanna force him to stay. "Okay. I'll see you in the Great Hall later this evening." I said as he and I hugged each other. After we said our goodbyes he left my dorm and I was left all alone. I sat down on the bed I first slept in when I arrived here at Hogwarts. It felt nice to be back in the spot where my love for this place was born. I looked through my new books for the new school year and packed my school bag with half of them. I didn't wanna be in a rush in the morning to get all the books I need. As I sat on my bed I couldn't help but feel excited about seeing Draco and Nick again. Eventually I ended up taking a nice little walk around the school grounds. The sun was out, and the temperature was still warm. A couple of white fluffy clouds were floating around in the bright blue sky. I enjoyed the fresh smell of green grass as well. Everything seemed so perfect and beautiful. An owl came swooping down upon me as I sat underneath the tree next to the black lake. A barn owl landed on my knee and I noticed that it had a letter clasped in its beak. I took the letter from the owl and it took off back into the air. The envelope that I was now holding was obviously addressed to me, and I vaguely recognized the handwriting. I broke the red wax seal and took the letter out of the envelope.

Dear Sapphire Vander,

I heard that you were seeking a career in wand making, and I asked professor Dumbledore if I could arrange a meeting with you. He should let you know when I'll be coming to the school, so we can talk about the lore of wand making, wand wood, cores, etc. Until then, I hope you have a wonderful second and last year at Hogwarts.

Sincerely,
- Garrick Olivander

After reading the letter, I folded back up and placed it back into the envelope. 'Snape probably told Dumbledore what career I want to peruse after I graduate.' I thought inside of my head as I got up off of the ground and headed back to the castle. When I entered the entrance hall I almost ran right into professor Kreizler. "Sorry, professor. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." I said with a slight laugh. "It's alright. I was just going for a walk around the grounds. Would you care to join me?" He replied with a small smile on his face. "I actually just came back from a walk." I said, and he looked a little disappointed. "That's fine, I'll see you later at the feast then." He said before leaving through the main castle doors. It felt odd that he was asking me to join him for a walk. For some reason it felt natural of Dumbledore, Gellert, or Snape asked me to go on a walk. 'Maybe it's because you're closer to them than professor Kreizler.' I said inside of my head as I walked towards the Slytherin common room. Even though there wasn't anyone else there I decided to have some alone time. I've been busy spending time around Snape and Gellert so much I haven't really been by myself recently. Not that I was complaining, but I'd soon be surrounded by thousands of students of all ages. When I reached my dorm I grabbed the current book I had been reading and walked into the common room. I took a seat at my favorite chair and opened the book I was holding. After I read for the majority of the day I eventually stopped and put my book back into my dorm. Deep down I hoped that Gellert could have spent more time with me today, but he was busy with meetings and stuff. Since I was just and assistant I didn't have to attend any of them. I felt lucky but I felt so sorry for all of the professors. 'Maybe they have nice little snacks in their meetings though.' I thought as I changed into my Slytherin robes. I made my way down to the entry hall even though I knew I'd be the first person in the Great Hall. I knew that the other students would be arriving soon. As I walked through the hallway I admired the lit candles and a rush of excitement went through me. I was excited for the first years to see Hogwarts for the first time, and I bet that some of the older students were happy to be back as well. 'I wonder what things Nick and Draco got up to over the past couple of months. They haven't really sent any letters since the first part of August.' I thought inside of my head. I kinda figured that they were probably just busy getting ready for the new school year. I pressed my thoughts to the back of my mind as I walked into the Great Hall and took my usual seat at the Slytherin table. Hopefully Nick and I will have a couple of classes together. But I knew that wasn't really likely since we'd be going into different careers once we leave Hogwarts. All of us would be taking different paths this year and onward, but I hoped that our paths would met sometime along the line after school. I pressed my thoughts to the back of my mind as a few students entered the Great Hall. Most of them were Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws, but some Slytherins eventually came in. I rolled my eyes when I spotted Pansy Parkinson and her friends, but I tried not to pay too much attention to them. They aren't ones to forget the bad blood between us, and neither am I. Eventually more and more students started flooding into the room. Professors started walking in as well. When I made eye contact with Gellert I have him a small little smile and he smiled as well. "Hey!" I heard a familiar voice say. When I turned towards the sound I saw Draco and Nick standing next to each other. "Hey! How how was your trip?" I said as I stood up and gave each of them a hug. "It was good." Nick replied. "A bit boring as always but we made it here in one piece, so I guess that's good." Draco said with a slight laugh. After the three of us quickly said hello, Nick went over to the Hufflepuff table. A moment of silence settled down around Draco and I as we sat down. After observing the other people who were talking and breaking off to their own house tables. "Sapphire, there's something I have to tell you." Draco said, taking me out of my thoughts. "What's up?" I asked him curiously. "Harry and I... well... we broke up over the summer." He said. "What? What happened?" I asked him with furrowed brows. I couldn't believe that Harry and Draco had broken up over the summer, especially since they seemed to really like each other. "The two of us really couldn't write each other, especially since his aunt and uncle are impossible. But when we met up at Hogsmead there just wasn't a spark between us anymore. We agreed to just be friends though, so... ya know... no bad blood." He said, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. "That's good. At least it was a mutual agreement." I replied, and he nodded. 'Maybe their romance was just a phase or something.' I thought inside of my head. Deep down I really hoped that Draco would be able to find someone that he could spend the rest of his life with. After what felt like forever it seemed as if everyone had finally arrived. Then I spotted professor McGonagall leading a large group of first years towards the staff table. 'I hope we get some new Slytherins this year.' I thought inside of my head as I watched the sorting proceed. The sorting hat sung a relatively ominous song that created a buzz amongst the students. But when Dumbledore rose from his seat a hush came over the hall. I half expected him to make a speech, but he didn't. He allowed us to feast first, and I was glad; I was practically starving, and I'm sure the others were starving from their long journey. The tables filled with food, and no one wasted time to fill their plates. Every one started talking about their summer vacations and whatnot. I asked Draco what he did, and apparently he spent summer at home. I thought he'd go on some fancy vacation, but I guess his father had to be in town due to his job at they Ministry of Magic. "What did professor Snape have you do?" He asks me curiously. I told him all the notes and potion making I had been up to over the summer months, and he screwed up his face. "That sounds a lot like school. I feel so sorry for you. Did you even get breaks?" He asked me curiously. "Of course I got breaks, especially after I was evaluated for the position." I replied. "Well? Did you pass? Did you get the position?" He asked me curiously with a hopeful look in his eyes. "Yes! I got the assistant position!" I said happily, and he congratulated me. "That's great! I'm so proud of you, Sapphire, you truly deserve it." He said, and I thanked him for his kind words. Draco and I made small talk as we ate and I wondered how Nick was doing over at the Hufflepuff table. I missed him over the summer as well. Soon the feast was over and everyone was well fed and watered. The buzz in the hall died away as Dumbledore rose from his seat once more. He made his usual speech, but he encouraged everyone to make new friends and learn new things. Once he was finished he dismissed everyone. The Great Hall was plunged into chaos once more as the prefects, head boys, and head girls were leading their houses into the corridor. Draco and I walked side my side as we followed the rest of our house towards the Slytherin common room. The first years looked around in amazement as the older students acted quite comfortable. Draco and I took a seat at our favorite chairs near the fireplace. "I've really missed this place over the summer." Draco said with a deep sigh. "I didn't have the privilege to miss it, but it is nice to have this place filled with life again. The empty hallways and classrooms get a bit lonely after a while." I replied a small smile. A moment of comfortable silence settled down over us as people milled around and helped the first years a bit. "I'm so glad I'm not a prefect or head girl. I don't think I could find the time, especially since I'm going to be a professors assistant." I said, and Draco agreed. After a while we said goodnight to each other and went to out separate dormitories. Just like last year, I had an entire dorm all to myself. I changed into my pajamas and climbed into bed feeling hopeful. I wanted to make this year amazing, especially since it's my last year at Hogwarts.
