Third person's POV

Esmee was letting the disgusting news sink in, she was wondering what her opinion on this matter would be. She tried understanding the reasoning, but she couldn't help but gag.

"So you're telling me that every Superior sleeps with their human parent first before looking for other potentials?" Esmee asked, shocked.

Catherine looked away, she was clearly unamused.

Marianne noticed this and looked at Esmee, she simply nodded.

"Why? That's..." Esmee paused, looking for the nicest words as to not offend Catherine. "That's weird."

"It's how it's been for centuries," Marianne scooted closer to Esmee, taking her hands in hers. "I know that, to us, this is weird and disgusting," Marianne said to which Esmee nodded. "I was disgusted too when Lilian told me this, but I understand now."

Esmee looked from her mother to Catherine. She noticed that Catherine had a hard time with this topic, any topic involving her mother was hard for her. Before, Esmee always thought that that was because Lilian was Catherine's mother and because it was her father who took her from her. But now, knowing this, she realized that Lilian wasn't only Catherine's mother, but also her number 1 potential.

"Don't protest against it, Esmee," Marianne pleaded. "It's not right for us to judge them based on their tradition."

"What if Lily doesn't want to sleep with her own daughter?"

Catherine's head then shot towards Esmee. "She has to."

Esmee was baffled by this. "Seriously?" She sat back, letting out a breath. "We've been looking for your potential for years and you're just going to give her to your daughter?" She then paused before adding: "What if Lily is also Emily's true potential? Then what? Will you share Lily?" Esmee couldn't help but make disgusting noises.

Catherine wasn't pleased, she felt like Esmee was disrespecting her and her whole family. So, instead of explaining it to her, she got up and left the room.

Marianne sighed and then looked at Esmee. "Don't be like this," She squeezed Esmee's hands a bit. "Catherine was always able to count on you, to talk to you about anything," She then looked down, at their hands. "I don't want her to lose that."

Esmee looked at their hands too. "I know," She sighed. "It's just..." She looked away, sighing. She looked at Emily and Lily again. "The thought of Lily and Emily having sex..." Esmee then shuddered before looking at her mother. "It truly disgusts me."

"I know," Marianne showed her a reassuring smile. "I reacted exactly the same when Lilian told me about her and Catherine."

"I don't understand," Esmee looked down. "I thought Superiors would only start looking for their potentials when they're 18, but Lilian died when Catherine was 15..."

Marianne looked at Emily and Lily too now. "The next Superior bonds with Number one long before," She motioned to Emily, playing with Lily. "They have sex whenever they feel like it," Marianne then looked at Esmee. "At the age of 18, they have to move on from their human parent and look for the next potential."

Esmee gulped. "So Emily can have sex with Lily whenever she pleases but when she turns 18, it's over?"

Marianne nodded.

Esmee looked down, this was too much to take in, too disgusting. "I need a moment." She got up and went to her room.

Lily's POV

"It is a nice looking castle," I smiled at Emily as she was smiling proudly at it. "And it's all for me?"

Emily nodded.

I smiled. "We can share it."

Emily then smiled more. "Yes!" She stood up, jumping around excitedly but fell over. She then started crying.

I got up and pulled her up, noticing she had a scrape wound on her left knee. "Come," I walked back inside. "I'll take care of that."

"Hey," Marianne said as she noticed Emily crying. "What happened?" She asked even though she could clearly see the wound on Emily's knee.

"She fell, I'm taking her upstairs to treat it."

Marianne nodded and smiled at us as we went up the stairs.

I walked to the bathroom and put Emily onto the sink. She sat there, waiting, while I looked for the bandaids. When I found them, I put one next to her. I then took a handkerchief and cleaned the wound gently. When that was done, I put the bandaid gently on Emily's knee.

Emily's cries lessened, the pain was subsiding.

I wiped away her tears. "Is that better?"

She nodded.

I smiled. "What do you want to do now?"

Before she could reply, she looked at the door. I turned around and noticed Esmee stand there.

"Hey," I smiled but noticed she had a weird expression on her face. My smile disappeared as I got worried. "What's wrong?"

She looked at Emily.

"She fell," I explained. "I treated her wound."

Esmee nodded and then left again.

That was weird, I thought. I then looked at Emily. "Come," I pulled her up and walked to her room. "We'll play inside."

Emily started smiling and giggling again, it seemed the pain was completely gone now.

__________________________

Emily and I had been playing in her room. She was playing with her dolls and I was basically just watching her.

"Mommy," Emily suddenly said as she put her dolls down. "Where zaezzes?"

"I don't know," I looked at the door, as if Catherine would suddenly appear. "Shall I go look for her?"

Emily quickly shook her head. "She angry."

"Angry?"

Emily nodded. "Knaoqgog."

I showed her an empathetic smile then. "She's not angry at you, honey," I caressed her little face. "She's angry at him."

Emily tilted her head sideways. "Why?"

I looked down then. What was I supposed to say to that? I looked at her. "He did something bad."

Emily then looked sad. "What?"

I smiled and pulled her up, making her sit down on my lap. "He hurt her, he was not nice. So zaezzes is hurt."

Emily nodded, seemingly understanding what I was saying. "They talk."

I let out a huff, if Catherine and Vernon ever talked... I wouldn't want to be present. "Maybe..." I then smiled a bit. "What shall we play next?"

Emily clapped her hands excitedly and got up, walking to the children's books.
