Evie's pov
What is that guy's problem? I've never been humiliated in my entire life until now. He made me feel like im such a dimwit! Bakit ganon ang tingin nya sakin? Grrr.... Trying to contain my anger to no avail. Kung hindi ko lang talaga kailangan ng trabaho! For my brother Gelo, i reminded myself.
I glanced around the room and can't find a friendly face. Some of the female staff just snubbed me. Hala! What now?
Thank heavens, Stan came in and asked me to follow him in his office.
"Yes, Sir Stan?" i asked.
"Drop the sir and just call me Stan. We're gonna work together and I dont want a wall between us." said Stan.
"Crystal" , i smiled back at him. Good thing he's nice. A far cry from Madame Alandy's grandson Dylan. He then handed me the company's manual and asked me to read it muna. He told me to take it easy and that he'll take me out for lunch later.
"Nakakahiya naman, sir! Stan, i mean. I'll just eat at the office cafeteria" i said.
"I'll take offense if you decline my offer. Lahat kase ng newbie, i take them out for lunch or dinner. As a welcome gesture", he said.
"Oh, okay then" , i replied. Kinilig pa naman ako. I thought he's askin me out. I internally groaned. Feeler lang! Hahaha I went out of his office and went to my cubicle.
As i passed by, i heard a girl said na " hindi naman kagandahan. Maputi lang sya at naka designer outfit" na parang sinadyang ipakinig sa akin.
I dunno what to say. Im not usually subjected to this. But then again, i heard another girl who's cubicle is next to mine said na " Inggit ka lang, Clara kase mukhang like sya ni Sir Dylan. You dont even come close sa beauty nya." and she laughs.
The mean girls just raised their brows and left.
She approached me and introduced herself, " Hi, I'm Queenie. Wag mo silang pansinin. Feelingera mga yan.", the pretty chinita said.
"Im Evie. I dont have any intention of getting into a catfight with them. Im here to work and earn my keep."
" I like you already! Glad that we're on the same team. Oh sige, feel free to ask me kung may tanong ka ha."
" Thanks, Queenie!" and we concentrated on our work.
And before i know it, lunch time na.
" Hey, Evie! Lets have lunch na. I'll introduce you to my friends. Dont worry, they're all nice. A bit crazy but nice", Queenie said.
" Okay lang ba? Im not intruding?"
"Ano ka ba? Sobrang matutuwa sila lalo na ang mga guys. They're crushing on you!" Sabay hila sa akin ni Queenie papunta sa elevator.
" Where are we going to eat? Parang its kinda traffic if we'll eat at Makati Shang?" i said. The thing is, Im worried na baka hindi magkasya budget ko.
" Makati Shang? Grabe ka naman, pang office cafeteria lang kami! Hindi namin afford eh. Doon ka ba madalas kumain? " tanong ni Queenie
" Hindi! Akala ko kayo ang madalas don,"palusot ko.
" Halika na nga, let's fall in line at pumili na tayo ng food," sabi ni Queenie
We then headed to the table where i assumed her friends occupy. They're laughing hysterically over something that the guy in blue said.
" Hey! The queen is here!"
The guy in blue immediately stood up and kissed Queenie sa lips! Nagulat naman ako don. Then the morena girl turned to me and said na masanay na daw ako sa ganong eksena. Nagtawanan naman silang lahat.
When the kiss ended, Queenie properly introduced me to her friends.
"Meet my new friend, Evie!
This pretty girl here is Cindy, my friend since grade school," referring to the morena girl. The tall dude, he's Russel, the chinky eyed dork's name is Glenn. And ang pinaka gwapo sa lahat, my king, si Aldrin. "
" Biased ka talaga Queenie! Ako kaya ang pinaka gwapo." sabi ni Glenn.
"Hi, happy to meet you all!"
And we started talking as if ive been part of their group ever since.
"Are you all working at Alandy Corporation?" sabay ngiti sa kanila.
"Grabe, your smile is so endearing, nakakatunaw! sabi naman ni Russel.
" You guys are hilarious! You haven't answered my question pa" sabay tawa ko din. I feel immediately at ease with them at hindi ako nakaramdam ng hiya.
Pero bigla na lang tumahimik si Queenie. When i looked up, andon si Sir Dylan.
"Ms Berbon, you're new here pero youre causing a raucus agad! Anyway, lunchbreak is almost over." sir dylan said before he left.
"What's gotten into him? Buti na lang we dont work for Dylan." sabi ni Glenn
"Hindi naman sya ganyan. Ngayon lang and kay Evie lang" sabi ni Queenie
"Malakas ang tama sayo non,nagpapapansin eh" sabi naman ni Aldrin
"I think so too," sabi naman ni Cindy.
"Enough na nga! Lets go back to work na. By the way, thank you guys. I had a great time" i said
And pagkabalik namin sa cubicle ko, andon si Stan. Oh, shoot! I forgot! We're supposed to have lunch nga pala.
"I waited for you, Evie.," Stan said.
"Im so sorry Stan! I totally forgot. I had lunch with Queenie and her friends" i apologetically replied.
" it's okay. We'll have dinner instead. Way better!" Stan winked and left.
Natulala si Queenie sa narinig and the mean girls are nearby din and umirap sila sakin.
Ano ba yan, half day pa lang ang dami ng nangyari.
Whew!
