And true enough, when the clock strikes 5, Stan is at my table already.
"Shall we?" asked Stan.
"Okay then", i replied.
I followed him to the elevator hanggang sa parking lot. Nagulat si Stan when he saw that i have a driver waiting for me. I told him that we'll just follow him.
" Good choice, Stan! I havent been here in ages." He brought me to an all day breakfast diner.
"Who cant resist their pancakes?", sabay tawa ni Stan habang naghahanap ng table na mauupuan namin. We gave our orders to the waiter and parang nagulat si Stan sa order ko. I have a huge appetite lalo na at gusto ko ang pagkain.
We then started talking while waiting for our food. I found out that he is 2 years older than me and he's into sports. He gave me a brief background of the company and about the other co workers and their duties.
And our food arrived.
"Yum" i said. Im so famished that I immediately started attacking the stack of pancakes plus the bacon.
And when i looked up, Stan is staring at me and i asked him why.
" Yan ang gusto ko! No pretensions. Im used to girls eating their salads and bread."
" Well, not this girl! " sabay kuha sa maple syrup.
"Magkakaroon na ata ako ng food buddy", he said
" Pwede, basta your treat! Hahaha"
"On second thought.... Biro lang! Lalaki masyado ang bill ko, sabay asar nya. I knew then that I got a friend in him.
" What's going on here? ", a brooding Dylan asked.
" Im having an early dinner with our new marketing manager. Care to join us? "
" So its on the company's tab?" tanong ni Dylan.
Napipikon ako at agad na sumagot sa kanya.
" Stan is the one who invited me and told me that its customary for newbies. I'll pay for my meal then so it wont be an issue, Sir! "
I stood up and went to the counter and immediately settled the bill. Lagot, tsaka ko naisip na mababawasan ang monthly household budget ko. I should have swallowed my pride. Me and my temper.
I went back to our table and told The Boss na nabayaran ko na. He didnt even glance my way.
" Goodnight, Stan"
at lumabas na ako ng diner papunta sa parking lot. Ang daming familiar faces na nakatingin. Gosh, i made a scene ata.
Stan followed me and apologized profusely. Pinipilit nya akong bayaran.
"It's okay. Walang problema. Madami akong nakain kaya I should pay for my meal."
"Im so sorry about what happened. I dont know what's gotten into Dylan.",hiyang hiyang sabi ni Stan.
"No biggie, he's the boss and im not gonna take a single cent from him that I didnt work for."
"I'm the one who invited you out and i dont let the girl pay. Never!"
"Well, there's always a first time." Bigla akong sumakay sa suv at naputol na ang usapan namin.
