CHAPTER 14

Hannah's POV:

"Okay, you guys were right. I do like Jacob. I mean I like spending time with him, his presence makes me happy and his absence makes me go all ughhhh. What is wrong with me?" I crib as I sit between Allison and Char at the lunch table.

"Nothing is wrong with you. It's normal for you to feel whatever you are feeling. It's okay, don't worry." Allison assures me.
"I'm so happy for you. All my best friends are finally couples." Char beams.

"Slow your horses princess, it's only a crush. And it's not like he reciprocates. It's just a one- sided fantasy that'll only be fulfilled in my dreamland." I reply.

"Well, atleast my best friends are couple in Hannah's fantasy world." Char shrugs and we all laugh.
"Hey guys." Jacob emerges from behind me with Dennis and Aiden beside him.

"Did you guys hear about this year's winter trip?" Dennis speaks up.

"What winter trip?" I ask.

"Well, our school takes us each year to a historical yet fun location for a winter trip." Jacob says

"That's amazing. I barely ever went for a trip at my old school. Since my parents travel a lot, I had already been to most of the locations that our school chose to take us too."

"So what? The location doesn't really matter as long as you are with friends." Jacob argues back.

"Yeah." Was all I could reply. "Excuse me, guys." I say and walk out.

I go over to my thinking place and sit there. They were stairs that led to a side exit of the school which was usually locked. I discovered it one day when I was roaming about exploring the school. It was isolated for almost all of the time and hence was one of the many reasons I liked it.
It had a small window on the side which showed a view of the neighbourhood from the height. The view was intriguing.
I sit and analyse Jacob's statement back at the lunch table: 'The location doesn't really matter as long as you are with friends'. It never did to me. The truth was; I never went on trips because I never really had any friends to go with. I sat there with my thoughts until Jacob came and sat beside me.
"Figured I'd find you here."

"That predictable, huh?"

"Nah, I just know you too well." He replies winking at me.

"You've got to stop winking at people, it's kinda creepy."

"Nah, don't care about what people think. But, why did run off from lunch like that?"

"Let's just say me and trips don't exactly have good memories together."

"Elaborate please."

"Well, for starters, I didn't really have any friends to go on the trip with. I couldn't really get along with my any of my roommates. And for the cherry on top, by the time the trip was over, I was regretting ever going on the trip."

"If I'm being honest, I can't relate." He says an apologetic smile approaching his face.

"It's fine. I don't expect you to. Anyways, I'm getting late for my study session with Aiden. Bye."

"I'll meet you outside the library at 6, okay? Bye."

"I'll be there."

I went over to my usual place at the back of the library to find Aiden already there. I take a seat across him and continue with my studying. After a lengthy discussion about centre of masses interrupted sometimes by sarcastic and jolly remarks by Aiden along with his usual speeches about his lack of self- esteem, I walk out of the library to find Jacob already waiting for me there.

I put on my earphones on the ride back home simply to avoid any kind of talk with Jacob. If you're wondering why I did that considering the fact that I admitted just this morning that I like him, it's because I don't want him about to know what I feel for him. I don't want to get relationships just yet. Maybe I'm scared that I'll end up getting hurt or maybe I want to focus more on my studies or maybe it's because of my past, I don't know, but I don't want to get into one, not yet atleast. Jacob pulls into my driveway just as I snap out of my thoughts. I say goodbye and walk in.

I get greeted by a suitcase in my living room which I think belonged to Alec.
"Alec, you're moving out?", I call out and walk towards his room.

"Yeah, I got a dorm room at the university."

"Can't you stay? I don't want to live alone again."

"You're not going to living alone anymore." A voice calls out from behind me.

"Mom", I shriek and rush into her arms.

" When did you come? Why didn't you tell me you were coming?"

"Well, I came today and I wanted to surprise you so I didn't tell you."

"What did you mean when you said that I won't be staying home alone anymore?"

"Well, that's the second surprise. Your father and I decided that we wanted to spend more time with you so we are going to settle the business here. Your dad will have to travel sometimes due to conferences and everything and I promise that it won't be for long but I won't be going with him anymore."

"Mom, you love your work. You don't have to sacrifice it for me. I appreciate the thought but you really don't have to."

"I love spending time with you the most and if I have to sacrifice something for that, it's going to be worth it."

"I love you, mom." I say tightly hugging her.

"I love you too, kiddo." She says ruffling my hair.

Dad came home later that evening. We finally had a family dinner together after a really long time. It felt amazing to have both of them back. We spent the rest of the night playing Ludo. Ludo was like an old family tradition past time that we used to do when I was little. We kept on playing until I fell asleep because the next thing I remember was waking up in my bed to the sound of my alarm. I quickly get dressed in a dark greyish top which was knotted in the front matched with a light denim ripped dungaree along with my usual light grey converse high tops. I tied my hair into a high ponytail leaving my bangs open.

I went downstairs to find my parents in the kitchen, my dad sipping his tea while my mom making pancakes for us

I went downstairs to find my parents in the kitchen, my dad sipping his tea while my mom making pancakes for us. A healthy breakfast after a long time. My dad insisted on dropping me to school today so I quickly sent a text to Jacob.

Me:
Hey, my dad's home and so he wants to drop me today. Meet you at school.

2 seconds later my phone buzzed in my pocket.

Jacob💕:
Okay, cools.

Typical Jacob reply. I laugh as I sit in the car with my dad and we drive off waving goodbye to mom.
