Poem 30: The Moon/Me

People find the dark terrifying and monstrous
But she lives and thrives in it.
Her smile can guid people through the night
And there are days she can't seem to smile as bright

Her imperfections are mysterious
And parts of her are always kept hidden
But somehow people don't need the bad parts for her to be contagious
she's surrounded by the stars
And she has no idea she's the main attraction
Because when she finally does find her smile
People only notice her glow

On some nights she is hidden by clouds and feels no purpose
She's afraid her light will not shine again
And they will find a new moon
On these nights she cries
And the clouds bring rain to hide her tears

God, does she love rain
She doesn't like the rain for the rainbows they bring
Because she doesn't need rainbows
But she needs the security of nothing will last forever
Though, it's both a blessing and a curse
Soon she'll be gone and the sun will be out
And that sadness will go away too
Because sadness doesn't last forever
And neither does the night
Nor do I.

*She hopes one day someone will Adventure her unknown in the pitch dark and learn to love her for everything she does and doesn't have to offer, not just for her moonlight.*
