You stare out the window of the bus as landscapes roll by. Kai sits next to you, staring ahead. He hasn't said a word since you got on the bus, and didn't say anything while you were waiting at the bus stop. You wonder what's going on in his mind right now, but you know he won't say anything about unless he wants to tell you, or at least not without a little gentle coaxing.
"You know, you can at least thank me for saving you," you say, breaking the silence.
"Thank you," he replies in a toneless voice.
You sigh. "Come on, Kai. If I hadn't gotten to you when I did, Damon Salvatore would have killed you. You were going to kill that Bonnie Bennett, and we know he's fond of her. Now, talk to me, please. What's going on?"
He takes a deep breath. "I think I'm dying, Y/N."
"You're dying? Of what?"
"I got bitten," he says shortly. "It's a werewolf bite. It's killing me. I can feel it. Damon said the cure is in New Orleans, but I don't know if it's true."
"Oh, Kai." You sigh. "That will kill you. I know that the blood of Klaus Mikaelson-the first hybrid and from a very old family of vampires-is said to be a cure for werewolf bites."
His face seems to light up a little. "But, Y/N, you're a hybrid. Can your blood cure me?"
"My blood? I don't know," you answer. "I never thought about it." You look around. There are other people on the bus besides you two, so you don't want to try feeding Kai your blood here on the bus. "Well, if you can survive until we get to the next stop, I'll give you some of mine and see if that works. If not, you'll have to hang on until we can get to New Orleans. Do you think you can make it until then?"
He sighs. "Yeah, of course I'll try. I don't want to die. I still have unfinished business with the people of Mystic Falls."
"And I think we should worry about that another day," you say. "Right now, the mission is to keep you alive. Once we've taken care of this problem, then you can focus on whatever you're going to do next." You pause. "Do you really think it's a good idea to go back to Mystic Falls?"
"Yes." He nods. "Yes, I'm going back once I'm healed. By time this is over, I'll want to go back and...check in on everyone."
You don't like the sound of whatever's going on in his head, but you'll tolerate it for now since it seems to be a distraction for him. However insane you think he might be, you'd like him to leave long enough to be able to talk to you about it.
