Rhylee and I were walking to class for fourth period : Chemistry. I was still feeling a bit down, so Rhylee was muttering encouraging words to me. They weren't helping at all.

"Don't worry Sam, everything's gonna be ay-oh-kay!"

"Sure." I say downheartedly

"That's the spirit!"

"Sure."

"He's gonna come back crawling to you again. I'm positive!"

"Sure."

"Oh would you stop saying sure?!"

"Sure."

She rolled her eyes, then suddenly perked up. "Look up, Zachary's coming this way!"

I looked up and surely (see what I did there?), he was coming this way. Rhylee and I stopped in our tracks. He finally reached us.

"Hey guys. Hey Sammy."

I somehow hate/adore the way he calls me Sammy. I hate it because of the 'fancy' way he says Sammy and singles me out, like how he just did. But I love the fact that no one else calls me Sammy.

"Hey Zack!" we chorused. Rhylee smiled and I didn't.

"Sammy, what's wrong?"

"Oh, she's just sad because Ryder got angry at her for asking him why he didn't have any friends." Rhylee chirped.

I gave her a little smack on her stomach and glared at her.

"Ouch! Sorry." She left the both of us alone and gave me the 'tell me everything that happened later' eye-signal. I winked in reply, not wanting to arouse any suspicion in Zachary.

He laughed. "I saw those signals, Sammy. I've known you and Rhylee since 8th grade. You'll probably tell her everything we've talked about right?" He laughed again.

"Oh, yeah. Sorry. I won't tell her."

"No, it's okay."

"Yeah."

"So, what was it about Ryder that Rhylee was talking about?"

"Oh, it's nothing."

"Oh, it is something."

"Trust me. It's nothing. Why do want to know, anyway?"

"It's just that," he held my hand. "Ryder is a bad boy, and girls like you shouldn't be hanging around him. You could get hurt, Sammy."

He had a genuine look in his eyes. My heart suddenly softened. Wait, why is he even concerned? He's not even my close friend. We're just acquaintances. Or maybe....

"Earth to Sammy. Earth to Sammy." He said while waving his hands in front of my face.

"Oh, sorry about that. Thanks for worrying about me. I'll be careful. I promise. I'll have to go to class now. See ya later!"

"Bye Sammy!"

Okay, I'll admit. That was weird. Zachary and I aren't really friends. We just say hello to each other when we see in the hallways. Sometimes we talk here and there. But they're always about school stuff.

I guess we don't really talk because of that 9th grade incident. But it's three years since that happened and no one is talking about it again. Maybe that's why he wants to be my friend again; now that no one cares about 9th grade anymore. Perhaps I should just take the initiative and be friends with him again.

Oh, well. It's time for chemistry. I walk into the class and lo-and-behold, Ryder is in my seat. I didn't even know we were in the same chemistry class.

We are not assigned seats, but I personally love sitting in the same spot for every class: third row, second seat to the left. I pay attention more when I sit in that spot. I'm currently at the brink of flunking chemistry, and if I'm not in that seat, I won't pay attention, then flunk chemistry, then have to take summer school!

Okay Sam, don't over-react. You won't flunk Chemistry and you won't go to summer school. Just walk up to him and tell him he's in your seat. How hard can that possibly be?

Hey guys. How was this chapter? I think it was pretty good. The guy in the picture above is Ryder. What do you think of him? Let me know. I'll be posting pictures of the characters in the next three chapters. Stay posted for more. Bye! :)
