"Whoa! The prom committee did a good job of decorating the gym." Rhylee gasped.

True to her word, the gym really looked good. The only sign that the room used to be a gym was the basketball hoop hanging from a wall.

Couples where everywhere; either eating, dancing, or talking.

"Let's go get something to eat. I'm starving."

"You're always starving, Zack." Rhylee rolled her eyes. The both of them walked away.

I sighed.

"So, here we are." Ryder said and slipped his hand into mine.

I looked up at him and smiled.

"There's no one else I'd rather wish to be here with." He winked at me, returning the smile.

My cheeks turned a light shade of pink.

"I love your look today. But I must say, I prefer you in black jeans and your hair ruffled."

He laughed, creating such a beautiful sound.

We walked over to a table, which was supposed to seat a number of six people. Rhylee and Zack returned with glasses of punch for the four of us.

"Ugh. Look at Katie." Zack rolled his eyes as he sat down.

She was laughing with a guy I had never seen before until now.

"You're just jelly because she cancelled your date." I stuck my tongue out.

"I'm not jealous." He scoffed.

"Oh really?" Ryder smirked.

"Yeah. I'm just feeling bad for her because she's missing out on all of this." He said, gesturing to himself.

Ryder looked at the guy she was with and then looked back at Zack. "Yeah. She's totally missing out."

Rhylee and I laughed. Zachary mumbled something about "getting better friends".

A girl and boy walked up to the stage and the girl spoke into the microphone.

"Good evening 12th grade! Welcome to the night we've all been waiting for." A few whoops were heard. "And now the time has come to vote for our Prom King and Queen!"

A cheer erupted from the crowd.

The girl, whose name I learnt was Mia, handed the microphone to the boy.

"You can each visit the school's official website, where you would have the opportunity to vote for this year's King and Queen. For a free election, no one is allowed to vote twice. All voting lines will be closed by half past eight. And now, with no further ado, let the voting commence!"

They left the stage while everyone was applauding, shouting, and making the most annoying noises possible.

"So, who are you guys going to vote for?" Zack brought his phone out from his pocket.

I shrugged. "I don't know."

"I think Myers and her date have a good chance of winning." Rhylee remarked.

"Yeah, they'll probably win. What's the purpose of even wasting your time to vote for anyone else?" I threw my arms up in frustration.

"Because," Ryder began, as he placed his hand on my back, "you never know if you never try."

"Where did that come from?" Zack snorted.

Ryder scowled at him in response.

"Won't everyone just vote for themselves?" I frowned.
