It wasn't supposed to happen.
Jimin wasn't supposed to fall for a man from West Lydialyn. But the heart can be a bitch, can't it?
It all started on one fateful day, about a month before his first full year as a guard. The guarding system was set up where two guards, one from East Lydialyn and one from West Lydialyn were back to back along the border fence, and the one that used to guard with him must have finished his time. A new guard came in. The guards were lined up where you can see both the guards on either side of you, but they are far out of ear shot.
You weren't supposed to talk to the guard back to back with you. But the other man just wanted a friend. It didn't take too long for him to start talking, about two days on duty. But Jimin didn't respond. He was law abiding and loyal.
Or to simply tell the truth, scared.
But then he realized the other guards didn't catch his partner, and his curiosity got the best of him, so he hesitantly started to reply. He was the son of the leader of East Lydialyn, but his father wanted to set an example that you can never escape form the mandatory enlistment in the military. Because of that, Jimin hated that he was breaking the rules.
But once he started he couldn't stop.
Jungkook was just too funny, too likable, too beautiful to let go. And not appearance wise. Jimin's only seen half of Jungkook's face. A large cap covers half of Jungkook's head, Jimin wears one too, but Jungkook's seen his face before. It's been on television multiple times.
Jimin found that unfair, not getting to see his face when Jungkook sees his constantly, but even though he wanted to know what he looked like so badly, he didn't care what he looked like at all. He fell in love. With his voice, with his laugh, with the stories he tells. He even fell in love with the little sniffling noises he makes quite often.
When he confessed, it was one of the most difficult things he's ever had to do.
"Hey Jungkook," Jimin had said that day, a bit quietly, but loud enough for Jungkook to hear it.
"Yeah?" The younger replied.
"I think I'm in love."
That seemed to put the taller at a temporary loss for words. "O-oh. Well what does he look like?" Jungkook already knew Jimin was gay. It was one of their many conversations. Standing there for six hours a day gives you a lot of time to get to know someone.
"I...I don't really know," The older had admitted, hoping Jungkook would get a bit of a hint.
He didn't.
"How are you in love without knowing what the person looks like?" Jimin imagined the younger furrowing his eyebrows.
"Do you need to know what a person looks like to love them?" Jimin shrugs. "If that was the case, how would blind people fall in love?"
"Oh, I guess you're right," Jungkook agreed, before speaking out again. "But you're not blind. Why don't you know what he looks like?"
"Well...I do know he's taller than me," Jimin never stopped looking at the horizon in front of him, obviously because it was part of his job. "He has thin lips, but big front teeth, from what little I've seen of course. And...and he's really smart, and really sweet, and thinks the separation of East and West Lydialyn is stupid. He's just a great guy. And if I could be with him, I would. But...I can't."
"What a coincidence," Jungkook had said that day, making Jimin's heart skip in nervousness. "I can't be with the one I love either."
"Why not?"
