Everything stops. You silence your breathing only to hear someone else's. Everything was still. You didn't turn around, instead reaching slowly to your pocket for your phone. You silently pulled it out, still painfully aware of the breathing behind you. It sounded so close. No less than five feet away. You turned on your phone with shaking hands. The 'click' of the button was apparently heard by whoever was behind you, as you heard them moving quickly towards you, at this, you got up and bolted, dropping your phone in the process. You were a bit faster than him as he seemed to be limping. You hid in the closet at the end of the hall. The man slowed down to a walk. His uneven steps matched his ragged breathing. He stopped at what you assumed was the first door he came to, which would be the bathroom. You heard him open the door. A sudden noise made you jump. You assumed it was him pulling the shower curtain aside. He then opened what you knew was the closet you never used. Grunted, walking out of the bathroom. The next room he went into was the guest bedroom. You knew this because you heard him trip over the suitcases you still had yet to move. He cursed under his breath as he rummaged though everything, trying to find you. You tried to figure out who he was and why he was here. 'he isn't here for any good reason' you thought sarcastically. You were still shaking, just a little less due to the adrenaline now rushing through your veins. He went to the next room, still limping. 'he's injured' you thought. This gave you an advantage. 'I need to get my phone' you thought, knowing that you had dropped it on the couch. You would have to make a run for it. 'i'll wait for him to get a bit closer.' You formulated a plan: once he went into the master bedroom, (which was the room right before the closet that you were end, which was the last door on the left, see chapter 28 for the house layout) you would make you way quietly back to the living room and grab your phone. You would then book it out of the apartment. You needed your phone or else you wouldn't be able to get help. you heard him go through another room. He seemed to be getting more and more frustrated as he went from room to room. You tried to think of who would be doing this. After thinking of a few options, which you dismissed, you remembered what Enki had said.

Flashback

"-that man. He's going to kill you if you don't stay out of his way"

Flashback end

'it's Liu Wie' you thought to yourself. You shivered as you remembered his strange power that he used on you. 'I could die' you thought to yourself. The thought itself scared you, but then you remembered something. 'if I die trying to free Enki, it would have been worth it' this comforted you slightly. Your heart rate slowed. Your ears perked up as you heard him open the door to the master bedroom. You knew he did because it had always made a weird sound when it's opened. You quietly opened the door to the closet. If he came out now, you would have no escape. It was at the end of the hall. And even if you did manage to get to a window, you were on the fourth flour. If you jumped from the window, there was a 100% chance that you would be seriously injured, or worse, killed. So the only way to safety would be to walk past where Liu Wie would be. 'I don't know if he's armed' You thought suddenly. 'what if he has a gun or knife?' you shook your head. You couldn't think like that right now. You needed to focus. You only had a little bit of time. You were thankful that there was a lot of hiding places in the master bedroom, and he seemed to be looking thoroughly. You had enough time. 'i hope.' You slipped off your shoes and socks as it would minimize the noise you made. You opened the door slowly, thankful for the fact that that the only door that made noise was your bedroom. You peeked out and saw that the door to the bedroom was almost all the way closed, only a small crack remaining. Your heart sped up as you took a step out. He didn't seem to notice. You started taking more steps, being as quiet as possible. You made it past the door. After a few seconds, you were in the living room. You saw your phone on the couch where it had fallen out of your grasp when you took off. You grabbed it. You walked to the door, only to find that he had shut and locked it. You cursed under your breath. There was no other way out. You had to unlock the door. Only the lock on the doorknob was locked. The deadbolt seemed to be broken. 'that's how he got in' you thought. That was when something happened at the worst possible time. Just as you were about to reach for the lock, you got a text from Ryota. The ding seemed to ripple through the place. You heard him freeze. Then fast footsteps were heard. He shot. It got you in your right thigh. You let out a scream of pain. You grabbed the nearest thing, which happened to be a book, and threw it at him. It hit his wounded leg. He fell, clutching his leg. You took this time to dive behind the couch. The space was rather small and was invisible from view. You heard him tearing through everything. All of a sudden, he stopped. A single gunshot ran through the room. You covered your mouth with your hands. Then, in the most stomach-dropping voice, he said, "You know I have a gun. When I find you..." He trailed off. You could see him through the crack of your hiding place. He didn't have his cloak on this time. He was wearing a fancy looking black suit. His face was covered with a black mask that only left his dark brown eyes exposed. His black hair covered his forehead. He held a small gun in his left hand. A knife holster was around his waist. You looked at his right leg and saw that he had in fact been shot. Blood dripped down onto the floor. He didn't seem to notice, he was too focused on finding you. You snapped out of your trance and grabbed your phone, making sure to put it on silent. You knew Samon's number by heart. You knew he would get to you faster than anyone else. There was a police force, but you knew that you were in the apartment farthest away. It would take at least 20 minutes. You didn't have that much time. You dialed his number into messages. A call would be too loud. You frantically typed:

Samon, it's (y/n). Please hurry. There's an armed man trying to kill me. This man is a dangerous criminal. Please, I'm sorry for everything. I'll explain later. My apartment is at (insert address). He shot me in the leg. Get here quickly.

You pressed 'send' and hopped he would get it. He would be home by now. You crossed your fingers that he would take it seriously. A few seconds later, you felt your phone vibrate. Your body was flooded with relief as you saw his response.

On my way.

You didn't know anyone else's number, so there was nothing else you could do. You gritted your teeth at the pain from the gunshot wound. It was bleeding a bit, the bullet preventing too much blood from seeping out. You just sat there, clutching your leg, watching him look for you with his gun in hand.

Yet another cliff hanger. Sorry. But hey, at least I updated on time! The next chapter should be out by either 6/9 or 6/10. I would also like to thank everyone for voting on my story! It means a lot! Also, I have submitted my story for consideration to participate in the Watty Awards! Though I may not (probably will not) win anything, it's cool to be able to be able to do that. It's all thanks to you, the reader. I would like to thank everyone for their continued support! Love all of you! So YEET.
