Mia went back to her apartment to dress a bit more professional. Thankfully she didn't have to wear a suit, which she didn't own. Most of her wardrobe consisted of the basics, with a few dresses peppered in.
She found a floral, navy blue maxi dress.
Perfect
After changing, she went into her small bathroom to do her makeup, lip gloss and mascara. She then pulled her dark locks into a classy ponytail.
She shrugged.
Good enough.
She grabbed her phone and tablet and put them into her bag, then made her way to her black late model Corolla. Mia didn't need anything spectacular. It just needed to get her from A to B since she walked to most places.
Once at the restaurant, she told the hostess she was meeting someone.
She looked at her list. "Are you meeting Lizzie?" she asked.
"Yes. We have a business meeting."
The hostess nodded. "Follow me."
She led Mia to the outdoor dining area overlooking the ocean.
"Mia?" a beautiful redhead asked.
She had stunning blue eyes, fair skin and looked to be Mia's age.
"You must be a Lizzie," Mia said, shaking Lizzie's hand before sitting down.
Lizzie gave Mia a friendly smile.
"It's so wonderful to meet you."
"You as well," Mia smiled back.
The waiter came over, asking if Mia wanted a drink as Lizzie already had one.
"A Diet Coke thanks."
He nodded and left.
"I hope I didn't keep you waiting long," Mia said.
Lizzie waved her off. "Not at all. I got here early," she winked and lowered her voice. "Wanted to get a good table."
Mia looked around, noticing the patio was completely full.
"This place is amazing," Mia admitted looking out at the ocean.
"Right?" Lizzie exclaimed.
"I had a question that I forgot to ask when we last spoke. Are you having a day or evening wedding?"
Lizzie looked at her ring and smiled with so much love in her eyes. She pulled out her phone to show her a picture of her and her finance. Mia felt a small pang in her chest remembering when she felt that way. She squashed the feeling and focused on the task at hand.
"Evening. I think it would be more romantic. Liam is quite the romantic."
Mia smiled. "Hard to find a man like that. Congratulations by the way."
"Thanks!"
The waiter came back with her drink and asked if they were ready to order.
"I'll have the baked haddock," Lizzie said, handing the waiter her menu.
Mia said she was all set.
"Are you sure?" Lizzie asked. "My treat."
"Thank you but I'm still full from breakfast."
Mia pulled out her tablet and opened the program with wedding ideas for Lizzie. Lizzie moved to the chair adjacent to hers.
"I can't wait to see what you've come up with," she said, her eyes sparkling.
Tapping on the evening folding, Mia opened several different color palettes complete with flowers and reception decor.
"Wow, these are amazing!" Lizzie said. "I never would have thought of using a coral color."
Just as she was about to ask Lizzie about her thoughts and various combinations, Mia's phone rang. Looking at the screen she saw it was her sister.
She never calls unless it's an emergency.
Mia's heart leaped to her throat then she excused herself to take the call.
"Em, is everything all right?" she rushed out.
"Yeah, everything's fine. Is everything ok with you?" She sounded amused.
"I'm fine. I'm in a meeting, can I call you back?"
She laughed. "Sure. Oh and say hi to Henry for me," she said then hung up.
What the hell?
Mia brushed it off and continued her meeting with Lizzie.
After about an hour, Mia had a pretty good idea of what Lizzie was looking for.
"I'll get to work on some more ideas as soon as I can," Mia promised as they left the restaurant.
Lizzie pulled her in for an unexpected hug.
"Thank you do much for doing this for me. But don't forget, the wedding isn't for 8 months, so take your time."
They parted ways, Mia heading back home. She had muted her phone so she had no idea that she'd received several alerts and a couple phone calls.
Once she got home, her mind still on ideas she had for Lizzie, she unpacked her bag.
"I have to call Em," she said to herself, taking out her phone.
Her eyebrows shot up. "What the fuck?"
There were multiple Instagram alerts, a text from Katie demanding to know how her meeting went and two voicemails.
Mia felt her heart plummet. One call was from a Henry. One from Daniel. She took a calming breath, sat on her sofa and listened to her messages. The first was from Henry.
"Hey Mia. Look, you probably noticed someone posted pictures of us at breakfast on instagram. I don't know who tagged you, but it wasn't me. I'm so sorry. Please call me. Bye."
Fuck. Not again.
She already dreaded what Daniel's message would say. With trembling fingers, she hit the button to play the message.
"Mia, it's Daniel." She hadn't heard his voice in a while. Her heart squeezed. "I saw that you are dating Henry Cavill. I don't know what to think. Are you seriously crazy? I thought you didn't like the attention dating me had brought you."
No I didn't. But your cheating on me didn't exactly help our relationship, she thought.
"Anyway, I just want you to know that I miss you everyday and still love you. I wish we could try again. Please call me," he said sadly and hung up.
Mia stared at her phone, tears welling in her eyes. She brushed them away. He didn't deserve her tears.
Instead of checking her instagram account, she called a Henry. He picked up on the first ring.
"Mia," he breathed.
"Hey," she sniffed.
"Please tell me you haven't been on instagram."
"I haven't."
"Don't," he said quickly.
She knew why. People were horrible, picking her apart no doubt.
Been there, done that.
"I won't. Do you know who tagged me?" she asked, genuinely curious. "It's only been a few hours since I saw you."
He paused.
"Looks like someone named Katie McGain. Do you know who that is?"
Oh my God.
"Yes. She's my boss," she gritted out.
Another pause.
"Why would she do that to you?" Henry asked.
"To drum up business? Because she hates me? Take your pick. I only have an account for my own work. Now I'm going to have to take down my page."
"I noticed your page," Henry said. "Great work."
"Thanks," she said bitterly.
"Hey," he said gently. "Can I come by your place? My manager is amazing with these sorts of issues. We can talk to her together."
"I...sure why not. I'll text you my address."
