Wake Up

The grass felt warm under me, blades tickling at my exposed skin. Mildew stuck to my clothes and skin, leaving behind a moist and itchy feeling. It felt nice though. The tall grass completely encompassing me as I relaxed.

It was nice. Laying in the grass sent me back to when I was little, laying down in the field behind my old house. Absorbing the sun's rays like an under-indulged plant.

A heady aroma enveloped me, making me feel sleepy. Oh so sleepy. It smelt like flowers, which ones I don't know. Perhaps those pale lavender ones from the Von Gallowen's garden.

Regardless, it's a wonderous experience. All I want to do right now is fall asleep. Everything was so comforting, so nice. I couldn't help but want to close my eyes, the sun's rays warming me better than any blanket.

Wait... why am I in a field. I don't remember entering one, nor there being one near the Von Gallowen Estate at all. Perhaps there was one in that forest behind the manor?

But why would I be in the forest anyway... I'd never wanted to go in. Books were more than enough to entertain me and that forest looked dangerous. I don't want to die before my time again.

...before my time... what happened? My head feels so fuzzy. Like I'm swimming through a cloud... or smoke...smoke.

I jolted up, head reaching just above the top of the tall grass. What...was that? Why does the lovingly warm ground seem so horrid now? So...burning...

I-I can't stay here. The ground burns so. The aroma is suffocating me, I can't breatheIcan'tbreathe. I need to leave.

Scrambling to my feet, I nearly fell over. The blades of the grass scratched against my skin, tangling around my feet as I tried to run.

The sun shined brightly above me, burning my retinas and making it impossible to see. I stumbled more than I ran through the field. The flowers brushed against my skin, leaving a sticky residue that burned.

I'm falling, why am I falling? When did I lose my balance? Why did I lose my balance? My head is swimming, everything is fuzzy. Why is it so fuzzy?

Then...I was safe. I felt safe. My breathing evened out yet my lungs still burned. Why did it hurt so much? I was safe, wasn't I?

"calm, you're safe my host" a soothing female voice crooned into my ear. Oh was she safe? She was a safe feeling?

Host...huh..." fairy" I mumbled, jaw not wanting to work as liquid fire laced through my veins. It burned, then it didn't. It felt cold but it was...warm? Why...

The more masculine voice chuckled...two? Was that normal? Or...right...  epic magicks probably had two fairies to deal with, they had two attributes after all.

"We", hmmm sharp, "are your fairies" his voice was whispery, although I could hear him perfectly fine. It sounded like...the wind maybe? Wrapping around me like a hug. Oh, wait...that is a hug...oh.

I...were they those lights? The ones I felt before...before...what happened before? Why can't I remember...

Fire ripped up my side, my legs buckled. I would've fallen had it not been for the two weights keeping me aloft.

"It's alright, my host. You aren't hurting anymore" Liar, though the fire lowered to a smolder. More of a throb than a stabbing pain. It wasn't bad, just not ideal.

"wha..." stupid tongue, stupid not-working jaw. That sounded dumb. How hard is it to say 'what's your name?'. Agh... why is it so hard to move?

Wa...ke...U...p...

"I am Kamala" The female voice burned through my head.

W..ake...Up

"I am Notus" The male voice whispered on the wind.

WAKE UP

I woke up.
