Chapter 6: Mel gets her piercing

Chapter 6:

Melissa's POV
Ever since I was little I always wanted my ear piercing. But dad never wanted me to get it, so... I'm gonna convince my mom to get me a piercing.

Melissa: hey mom
Mom: yes...
Melissa: can I have your permission to get my ears pierce?
Mom: does your father know?

I need to come up with a lie, my dad never wanted me to get my ears piercing, neither did my birth mom. They were both against piercing a child ear as a baby. They told me I wasn't allowed to get my ears pierced until I was 15 when I was getting my Quince. My mom wasn't allowed to get her ears piercing until she was 15 also, because grandma wanted to wait until she was old enough to handle it, so they both made that a rule for me too.

Melissa: *lies* um... yeah...
Mom: alright, will go to Claire's tomorrow after school
Melissa: awesome! No more clip on! Thanks mom *kiss her cheek*
Mom: no problem sweetie. I never had a chance to do this with my own daughter, and I'm glad I get to do this with you
Dad: *comes in* what's going on?
Melissa: *nervous* uh... nothing... *holds on to her mother*

I'm so busted, if mom tells dad about daddy saying it was okay for me to get my piercing without asking him first, they would both kill me. It's a rule in the house, "when one of us tells you no, don't go to the other person because you like their answer better". That's called playing them against each other.

Mom: *puts arm around my shoulder* I'm taking our little girl to get her first ear piercing *kiss my cheek*
Melissa: *smiles innocently* yay!
Dad: hold on, now. I never agreed to this.
Mom: she told me you did

I froze and they both look down at me and I pulled away from my mom, bitting my lips.

Dad: Melissa, explain.
Melissa: I know, I'm sorry. But I really wanted to get my ears pierced
Dad: Melissa, your mother and I told you no, when you asked when you were little
Melissa: but it's not fair! I'm old enough now? All my friends have them, only babies wear clip on.
Dad: Melissa, you don't get your ears pierced because all your friends have them. You get them because you want them
Melissa: well I want them now
Dad: no, you only want them because you want to show your friends off at school. Your birth mother and I agreed that when you turned 15, you can get your ears pierced. And if you ever play me against your mother again, you will be in so much trouble
Melissa: *sighs* yes daddy
Dad: go to your room while I talk to your mother

I stomped past my father angry earning me a swat to my backside.

Dad: keep it up with that attitude, and we will see where it leads too

I sigh and left the room and went to bedroom and slammed it hard to let him know I was angry.

Back downstairs.

Both Denise and Paul jumped at the sound of the door slamming and Mr. Jonas was pissed off and said.

Paul: that's it, I'm gonna spank the attitude right out of her.
Denise: *stops him* Kevin, you will not hurt our daughter while you're angry like this. Take a deep breath and count down backwards

Paul sighs defeated and did what he was instructed to do.

Paul: I'm calm...
Denise: look, I understand what she did was wrong, but can't you just let her get her piercing. I will be with her the whole time
Paul: no, Carol and I told her when she was 15 she can get her piercing and I'm not going to go against Carol wishes.
Denise: I know honey, but this is what she really wants
Paul: no she's doing this because her friend influenced her. The minute she sits down she gonna have a panic attack and not wanting to do it. We tried this before remember, and the two of us agreed we would wait until she was 15 like Carol suggest it until she is more mature to handle the pain
Denise: I understand what you mean, but I think she's more mature enough to handle it now
Paul: if Melissa can prove it to me, that she can handle the pain, then you can take her tomorrow after school
