Chapter 34: Memorial Service

Melissa's POV
I was fully recovered and already home now. It's been 2 weeks since the incident and it's okay to go back to school now. I still have to sit in a wheel chair, so it wasn't easy getting around. Kevin, Joe and Nick stayed to help me out, but I told them I was fine and told Kevin he should be with his family. But he said he wanted to wait until I was recovered.

Melissa: dad... do I have to go back to school?

I said to my dad as we pulled into the parking lot of my school, now getting flashback of the shooting event. Frankie was also here to help me out of the car. I didn't want the other boys to come because it would only draw too much attention because the boys are rarely together, and it will ruin the surprised of the boys reunion.

Dad: yes you do, I know you're scared to go back, but the school says the students can talk to the counselor anytime they're scared
Melissa: *frowns* okay

Frankie helped me in the chair and the two of them started wheeling me into the school. I started getting flashback of the event.

Dad: you okay baby girl?
Melissa: I-I'm f-fine

I sigh and as Frankie wheeled me inside. Everyone looked my way when they saw me, and I paid no attention to them as Frankie wheeled me to the guidance counselor office.

GC: *sees us* hello Mr. Jonas
Mr. Jonas: hello, thank you for helping take care of my daughter while she's recovering
GC: it's no trouble at all. I'm here to help all my students, how are you doing Melissa?
Melissa: *mumbles* I'm fine
Harley: *comes in* my dad said you  needed me Miss. Wilson? Hi Mr. Jonas
Mr. Jonas: hi Harley, hows everything
Harley: good, hi Mel and Frankie

She hugged Frankie than gently hugged me like she was afraid to hurt me.

Mr. Jonas: are you okay Harley?
Harley: *looks at me, than at my dad* y-yeah, I'm fine. So you wanted anything?
Miss. Wilson: yes your father wanted you to help Melissa get around the school, it was part of Mr. Jonas request
Melissa: well my dad is overreacting. I can get around the school fine on my own
Mr. Jonas: no you can't Melissa. I saw the way you looked when we were getting you inside the school, you were having flashbacks about what happened
Melissa: no I wasn't! Would everyone just leave me alone!

I said wheeling myself away from everyone and went outside. I sigh taking a couple breath to calm down, and started to head to my locker, which Harley and Frankie following behind me.

Melissa: what part of, leave me alone don't you two understand
Harley: Frankie told me you feel guilty about what happened with Gia
Melissa: I'm over that
Frankie: what's wrong Mel? Why won't you let us help you!
Melissa: because dad's treating me like a baby! I'm not a baby! I can do things on my own
Frankie: Melissa your still getting use to the wheel chair, it's not easy getting around like you think it is
Melissa: I don't care, I just want to go to school, than go to therapy so I can be able to walk again
Harley: Mel, would you stop being so stubborn and listen to us! We are only trying to help you
Melissa: I'm not being stubborn! I just don't like help and people treating me differently because I'm in a wheel chair
Harley: is that why? Mel, I'm still gonna treat you the same like I always do. But you have to understand this is still new to you and your gonna have difficulty getting around
Melissa: okay... I guess it won't be so hard getting help. But I want dad to stop babying me, I'm fine, he can go home now
Frankie: alright, you know he's just scared for you, last time he left you an active shooter was happening and he doesn't want to make the same mistake. He's afraid he will lose you Mel, at least cut him some slack
Melissa: o-okay

We  go back in the councilor office and dad said to me.

Dad: Mel, I'm so sorry-
Melissa: it's okay daddy, I know you were just trying to help me
Dad: the councilor told me I shouldn't push you too hard since this is still a lot to take in
Melissa: it's okay daddy, I know you were just trying to look out for me, I love you
Dad: *smiles* I love you too kiddo *kiss top of forehead* have a nice day at school
Frankie: later squirt *ruffles hair*

My dad and Frankie left and guidance councilor talked to me and Harley for a second to remind me of the assembly the school put together for the 7 deaths and 10 injuries.

Harley and I met up with Dylan and he hugged me gently and said.

Dylan: I'm so glad you're okay
Melissa: thanks, can we just not talk about what happened and get things back to the way they're
Dylan: sure, you need help getting around
Melissa: I'm fine-
Harley: Melissa... what did your brother and I just talked to you about earlier today
Melissa: *glares at her* I'm fine

The both of us got into a starring contest, I lost and she fist pump in the air and I pouted and said.

Melissa: fine... you can push me around today
Dylan: sweet!

Later today everyone was outside the school and were gonna do lanterns lighting for the 7 people that past away. Everyone that was either close to the victims said a few words of prayers to those who are still injured.

The three of us, me, Dylan and Harley did one mainly for Gia since I couldn't attend her funeral. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be here right now, she basically saved my life. After I'm healed I'm going to help out Gia's family and make sure her mom is getting the help she needs.
