Timeskip 2 weeks

Naruto POV

The bridge was completed without any incidents. Even though we were all highly suspicious about this, we accepted it gladly since it brought us two weeks of relative relaxing guard work.

It was the last day of the construction and the day where the bridge would be opened officially. Smiling Temari and I patrolled hand in hand around the bridge, watching as the workers finished cleaning up for the big opening.

Soon almost the whole town had gathered at the bridge, chatting amongst themselves waiting for the bridge builder to show up. A few minutes later Tazuna appeared and smiled at the crowd, before holding up his hand, silencing the crowd.

While he talked we watched the surroundings, still not sure if there was still any danger.

At the end of the speech Tazuna opened the newly named Future Bridge, referencing the bright future that the bridge would surely bring to the village. There was a big round of applause and then slowly everyone went onto the bridge, chatting with each other again.

Happy with the outcome Tazuna came to us and looked at each of us. "Thank you for the protection. I don't think that there will be another attempt at my life. You can go home now.", he said, smiling. We smiled back and bid our farewells as we made our way back towards Suna.

When we came to Suna we immediately were worried, I had teleported us back home since we all had a bad feeling in our stomach. I had chosen the marker in front of the entrance to the village and we were face to face to a small crowd of civilians that were looking away from the city and into the desert. The two guards that usually stood at the entrance were lying next to it, each with their throats slit. We heard an explosion and turned around looking at the cause of the explosion. We immediately jumped towards the reason, since we saw Orochimaru standing over Rasa, his sword in hand and blood on his clothes. He was panting hard, obviously having fought a hard fight against our kage. He jumped away from the limp body as we surrounded him, protectively pointing our weapons at the sannin.

Temari immediately went to her father, calling his name, trying to wake him back up. Baki looked at me and nodded, before he and Gaara went on the attack, going after the retreating sannin. I knelt down next to Temari and put an arm around her. The blonde girl cried silently into my side as she looked at her father's corpse, that slowly stopped to bleed. I wasn't doing much better than Temari, but I knew that I had to stay strong for her, so I just closed my eyes and patted her back, letting her cry, while slowly more and more people came out of the city to find their kage dead. Then there was a giant chakra spike in the desert and we knew, Gaara just had gotten serious.

Gaara POV

We raced after the snake, while my thoughts ran wild. I knew that my father was dead, since the wounds on his body and the amount of blood that I had seen were too much to survive. I was worried for Temari but knew that Naruto was with her so she would certainly be safe and he would also be able to calm her down and to support her. Yet I was still worried about my sister. I knew that the death of kankuro had hit her heard and I also know that she still has nightmares about him. I hoped she would somehow recover.

I looked ahead and saw Orochimaru standing in the distance. I pushed chakra into my legs and speed ahead towards the murderer of my father.

"So I not only get to take revenge on that fool of a kage for not helping me against Konoha, but I also get to pay back his his who helped to defend Konoha.", Orochimaru muttered smiling.

Shukaku, can you help me out here?

Yeah sure. Take all the chakra you need.

Thanks buddy.

I grinned like a crazy person when I felt Shukaku's chakra envelop my body. Orochimaru's smile faded we he realized what I was doing and he tried to flee by sinking into the ground. I however simply sprinted towards him and yanked him out of the sand. My speed had been drastically increased by Shukaku's chakra cloak so I was able to evade all the counter attacks that the sannin threw at me, while I was covering him with punches and kicks. Orochimaru suddenly jumped back and flew through hand signs, slamming his hands on the ground. A giant cloud of smoke appeared and I took a step back to see what he had summoned.

My eyes went wide when I was faced with a giant snake with my opponent on it's head.

Shaking off the feeling of shock, I kicked up and let the sand around us form a giant wave, effectively burying the two. I closed my hands and saw the sand compress, causing a loud bang and a lot of smoke to rise up. Wearily I slowly let my sand open up to see if I had actually gotten Orochimaru with that attack and I was surprised but happy to see the squashed body of the sannin lying in the sand.

Baki who had stood back for the fight, since he would most likely just have gotten in my way, came up to me and placed his hand on my shoulder. Slowly, I let Shukaku's chakra subside and smiled tiredly at my teacher. "We have our revenge, now come, the village needs us. Your family needs us.", he said, while he jumped down and cut Orochimaru's head off, sealing it away as evidence for Konoha when he went to collect the bounty. He nodded at me and we took off again towards our home.
