Silence.
It's the loudest thing ever, and yet no one acknowledges that.It rings deep within the darkest minds, even when the noise is so loud it causes hearing loss.
It's the silence that's louder than the loudest noise.
It's a black hole and it sucks up the light.Silence.
That all Alex's head can come up with. Empty, emotionless silence.
Meanwhile, Brendon doesn't have a care in the world. Alex's life is completely fucked over, and yet Brendon is over the moon. What better way to show someone your pain than to put that someone through the same thing you're going through?
The only difference is, Alex and Jack were never together.
That's Alex's only regret, not telling Jack how he feels. He should've told Jack years ago, even if it had meant losing the greatest friendship he's ever had.
At least maybe then he wouldn't be a vampire. Maybe he wouldn't be handcuffed to the backseat of Brendon's car either. And even if that's exactly where he'd end up, maybe he'd at least be clothed. The car radio is playing some Frank Sinatra shit, but Alex is too lost in the silence of his own mind to notice.
They've been driving for hours and Alex feels nothing.
He doesn't feel the pain nor does he feel the emotional turmoil. He doesn't feel his falling tears or the heart shattering into pieces inside his chest. He doesn't feel the car turning onto a bumpy road or the vibrations of the loud music. He doesn't feel his phone buzzing with texts and calls, the sinking feeling in his chest, the soreness of his arms, or the angry red sting of every bite left by the vampire who left him here like this.
He feels nothing.
His mind is silent.Brendon finally pulls over in front of a large, spooky house. Something someone might see in some cheesy horror movie.
Brendon turns off the car and smile's at Alex. "Welcome home."Alex squirms against the handcuffs, but not for long. It's no use. He's doomed.
"I'll be back in just a second, okay? Stay here." Brendon winks before leaving Alex once again in the deafening silence.
Alex doesn't know what's going to happen next, nor does he want to be alive to find out.
And yet, part of him wants to run home to Jack, even if he's not sure he'll still be there.Brendon climbs back into the drivers seat of the car and aims a gun at Alex. "I'm going to uncuff you, and you're going to get dressed, 'kay?"
"And what if I don't?"
"Well I shoot your little broken heart into a million tiny pieces." The smile on Brendon's face was enough to churn Alex's insides into goop.Brendon hums quietly to himself as he unlocks the handcuffs, then he returns to the front seat with the gun and watches Alex intently.
Zack hunts vampires, Alex thinks to himself. He should be able to find us no problem.
Once dressed, Brendon exists the car and opens the door for Alex with a sickeningly sweet smile. He then grabs Alex's hand and pulls him into the giant creepy mansion.
The inside looks fairly modern, with a few details from different decades dating back to the 1600s, but Alex is too lost in his own mind to care.
Brendon leads him up a few flights of stairs and then into a room with only one small window that looks out over the back of the house. It reeks of blood on rotten flesh, but Alex tries to ignore that, even though it's making him thirsty.
That thought alone makes him want to vomit.
The door lock clicks and Brendon sits down on the bed. Their locked in the room together now, and Brendon has the key. He also has Alex's phone.
Brendon hums to himself as he scrolls through texts Alex can't see. "What to send, what to send..." Brendon thinks for barely even a second before he thinks up an idea. "Oh! I know! No Jack, you're right. I'm a monster and I put you and everyone else in danger." Brendon looks up at Alex for a response, but receives none. He continues. "I'm going to steal one of those pointy wooden fence posts from the park and then fall on it. I love you Jack. I just had to say that before I never see you again."
Something inside Alex seems to burn in his chest, and yet he stands still, completely blank faced and uncaring of what should happen next.
Brendon hits send and then pockets the phone, ignoring the fact that it's going off continuously with calls that will no doubt be coming through all night.
"Have a good night, Alex, I'll see you tomorrow."
And then Brendon is gone.

After hours of staring at his unmoving phone in absolute silence, Jack finally hears back from his missing roommate, but what he gets is a nightmare.
No Jack, you're right. I'm a monster and I put you and everyone else in danger.
I'm going to steal one of those pointy wooden fence posts from the park and then fall on it. I love you Jack. I just had to say that before I never see you again."No!" Jack shouts to no one in particular, calling Alex immediately. "No no no!"
Rian runs in with a concerned look. "What's wrong? Is it Alex?"
Jack nods, biting back tears as the phone rings. "T-tell Zack to go to the park. He said he was going there to- to"
"To what, Jack?""Hey, you've reached Alex!" Alex's voicemail sends Jack into a panic. "I can't answer your call right now. Leave a message and I'll call you when I get the chance."
Jack calls him again. "He said- I think he's going to- Rian- I-"
"Spit it out, Jack!"
"He's going to kill himself!"
At this, Zack runs in. "Where?"
"The park, he said-" but Zack's already gone.
Rian goes after him, leaving Jack alone in the bathroom.Voicemail.
Voicemail.
Voicemail."We're sorry, the number you are trying to reach is unavailable-" Jack frowns. That can't be right. The robotic voice would only show up if the number doesn't exist or....
But Alex wouldn't block Jack, would he?
What's a few hundred phone calls if he's just going to-No. Jack can't finish that thought. He forces himself to his feet and starts to make his way to the door, but his body feels too heavy and his head hurts too much to be going after his friend.
This time he calls Rian.
"Jack? Hey, we didn't see him at the park. Did he say anything else?"
"Are there any posts missing?" Jack asks, half crawling just to sit on the couch.
"Uh, no it doesn't look like it, why?"
"Alex said he was going to fall on one of the fence posts. If there isn't one missing and Alex isn't there, then..."
"You think it's faked?"
"I went to voicemail three times and then he blocked my number. I don't know what to think."Jack can hear Rian and Zack talking into the other line. He's pretty sure they're thinking up possibilities of what actually happened to Alex.
"I know a guy who can hack Alex's texts," comes Zack's voice. "We just need his computer."
"Done. I know the password. Just get him over here."Zack agrees and Rian hangs up the phone.
Then Jack reads over the text Alex sent several times.
Only then does Jack really comprehend the fact that Alex said he loves him.
And only then does Jack really start to cry.
