That Old Hollow Tree

I feel dead.
I feel hollow.

I feel like that old tree,
That's hollowed out,
Dead on the inside but still very alive.

I feel like that old tree,
Losing it's leaves in the fall,
Losing all that protected it,
All that sparked it joy.

I feel love.
And I feel happiness.
But I feel dead on the inside,
Hollow and cold,
Dead but still very alive.

I feel like that old tree,
That is dead,
And alone,
But still very alive.

I feel sparks of joy,
But they grow scarce,
As I shed my leaves,
My joy and compassion.

I feel love and hope,
The last leaves still remaining,
As my contentment starts to linger away.

I'm that old tree,
Dead and hollow on the inside,
Alone but still very alive.
And as I shed my leaves,
I shed my tears,
I lose my joy and smile,
As I prepare for my final good bye.
