CH 34 Love

Charlie put his fingers up to his lips.
Did Alex really just....

He felt his cheecks heat up and his heart began to pick up pace.
At first, he didn't know what to make of any of it. Did this mean Alex liked him?

Did he like Alex back?

For a while he thought all the warm fuzzy feelings he had just meant that Alex was a really good friend that made him happy. But as soon as their lips were just millimeters apart, he knew it was something more.

He couldn't help but giggle to himself out of peer joy. Alex liked him! He was in love with Alex!

He heard the car start and rushed over to the window. He saw Alex sitting in the backseat whith his head up against the window. If Charlie had a puppy tail, it would be wagging rapidly. He couldn't wait to see him again.

"I cant't beleive I did that!" Alex menatlly screamed. He wasn't sure if he should be excited or scared. "What if it was a mistake? What if Charlie didn't actually want me to do that?...What if he did?"

"You alright back there?" Mia asked him. She looked at him through the rear view mirror briefly. She had saw how red Alex's face was, how he was bitting his nails until they were was nothing else to bite, and how his leg was completly restless.

"Y-yeah" Alex replied. He kept his eyes glued to the window.

"What would people think?"

"You sure something's not on your mind?" Mia asked again.

"Um..." Alex started. He paused to think up an excuse. "Just not feeling the best. I um...have a big english test coming up".

"Oh, well I'm sure Charlie would be more than happy to help you study" Mia said smiling. "English is one of his best subjects".

"O-okay" Alex replied. He brought his thumb nail up to his mouth again. Then he rememberd that all his nails had been chewed down already.

"What if Charlie doesn't want to see me again?"

The next morning, Charlie rushed through the halls of his highschool in search of Alex. His heart pounded in his chest. He had to see him.
He needed to know what that kiss meant to them both.

After 20 long minutes of searching had passes, Charlie got worried that Alex wasn't in school at all. He looked everywhere he could think of. The library, the music room, Alex's homeroom class, and every art room in the building.

He stopped searching and layed up against his locker. He suddenly felt all alone. Everything was becoming too loud. The hallway seemed to be getting more and more crowded.

"Where's Alex? Is he okay?" Charlie thought to himself. "Did something happen to him?"

Bad thoughts started to flood Charlie's mind. He started to tear up, so he fled to the bathroom, the single one that he had hid in plenty of times before.

As soon as he found it, he pushed through the door and slammed it shut behind him. After turning the lock he let out a shaky sigh.

"Charlie?" A small and familiar voice spoke.

Charlie gasped. He turned around to see Alex sitting on the bathroom floor with his knees to his chest. Alex sniffled and wiped tears off his face with his sleeve.

Charlie teared up again and ran over to Alex. He threw his arms over the blonde, hugging him tightly.
Alex tensed up but slowly relaxed in Charlie's embrace. He realised that he had given Charlie quiet the scare and felt awful about it.

"I'm sorry..." Alex whispered hugging him back. "I'm...so sorry for everything" He said starting to cry again.
Charlie pulled away from the hug and looked at him confused. "After I...kissed you..." Alex started, "I thought you wouldn't wanna see me again...I shouln't have done that Charlie. I just-" He broke out into sobs before he could finish. "I-I'm so...stupid!" He cried out.
Charlie shook his head. Alex wasn't stupid...He was smart, kind, funny, loyal...he was everything to Charlie. Charlie pulled Alex into his arms.

"It's okay Alex" Charlie spoke softly. "You're not stupid".
Alex shook his head and continued to sob into Charlies chest.
He couldn't help but feel wrong.

"You're not...gay are you Alex?"

"No..."

Alex's Grandmother just stared at him. The crumbled up piece of paper in her hand started to slowly crumble up again. The word "FAGGOT" slowly dissapearing into it's ball again.

"The kids at your school seem to think otherwise it looks like" She said. "Is that why they're picking on you?"

Alex didn't respond. He kept his back to her. He was shaking from holding himself back. He wanted nothing more than to just finaly explode at her. Tell her how wrong she was for thinking all Gay's go to hell. That he wasn't going to get married to a girl. That she couldn't just hate someone for who they were.

But at the same time, he thought that would all be lies.

And as if to confirm that, his Grandmother then said, "There's something really wrong with you..."

"Alex..." Charlie said bringing the boy back to reality. "You're okay, I promise" He said.

"B-but..." Alex cried. "I shouldn't have done that...There's something wrong with me Charlie-"

Before he could say another word, Charlie kisses him. It was longer than their first kiss, much longer.
When Charlie pulled away he smiled through his tears. He pushed some of Alex's hair behind his ear.

"There is nothing wrong with you Alex" He said holding Alex's face in his hands. Alex just looked up at him with wide eyes. "I...I love you, Alex..."

Alex, overcome by emotions, teared up again. He pulled Charlie closer and kissed him again and again. If he was "wrong" for feeling this way...then to hell with it. He loved Charlie way too much to give him up.
