"Hope, and Thanatos Marshall to the principal's office." Dr. Saltzman's voice resonated through the empty halls. A few stragglers left behind. The two supernaturals standing next to each other shared an odd look before heading to the principal's office as instructed.
"P.A. System? It's a little dramatic, don't you think?" TJ snorted into his hands until Dr. Saltzman filled them in on what happened. "Not as dramatic as the message Landon left me saying he had something urgent to discuss." Dr. Saltzman sat down gripping tightly on his mug, "Anything you two want to share?"
"Only that, we're pretty sure the monster's are after Landon this time," TJ informed. "And you didn't think that's something I should know?"
"More like we were afraid of what you were gonna say after that." This time, it was Hope who answered Dr. Saltzman's question. "Guys," Dr. Saltzman heaved out a heavy sigh, "You need to go to the Salvatore School."
"That was it." TJ pulled a face, already hearing Dr. Saltzman's thoughts screaming at him. "Not for your sake. For theirs. Maybe Landon isn't that important to you. But if Malivore wants him, we need to want him more."
"Look, we will take care of it, but from a distance." Hope had already explained her reasoning to TJ, but Dr. Saltzman hadn't gotten the memo. "Okay, what am I missing here, Hope? Hmm? You told me the truth, and everything worked out fine."
"Not the whole truth." Alaric hummed as though he already understood, but he didn't. "Landon, and I... we were in love." TJ looked away, he didn't want to hear of this love when he was sure he could provide her a different kind, a real love.
"Like, real love," Hope continued pulling TJ from what he would call his own pathetic thoughts. "Epic love, if that even exists."
"I can assure you it does." Without meaning to, TJ had seen all of Dr. Saltzman's desolate past. Wife murdered, girlfriend murdered by Hope's dad, second wife murdered by her twin. The worst TJ had lost was his great grandma that he met twice, and Toni, he couldn't hardly compare his pain to Alaric's, and definitely not Hope's.
"Now, he's with Josie, and they don't know what we were to each other. And I'm just afraid, if I tell them, she's gonna hate me forever, or he's gonna hate me, or I'm gonna hate myself because I made us all miserable. So I can't tell them. Not yet."
Hearing about Hope's past love was not something TJ was excited about, her thoughts screamed at him all day about Landon anyways. Distracting all three, gentle raps echoed through the office. "Sorry to interrupt," the sheriff apologized stepping in. "No, it's okay. We were just leaving. We will see you at the pep rally."
"See you there. I'll hope you'll consider the transfer. I can put in a good word for you at the Salvatore School." Pulling a still confused TJ from the principal's office, Hope let out a deep sigh. "You okay?" Hope shrugged, her lips drawing into a thin, fake smile. "Yeah, I'm fine."
"You sure? 'Cause you're doing that thing when you pretend to be fine, but aren't actually fine." Hope cocked an amused eyebrow. "I have a thing?" TJ chuckled giving up on trying to pry the sadness out of Hope. He knew it was there, and she knew he knew. She would talk about it eventually.
The two started their descend upon the halls simultaneously. A low growl catching their attention. "Raf?" The werewolf was inching towards Landon threateningly. TJ, and Hope jumped into action like they had been doing it their whole lives.
TJ thrust out his hand, the werewolf rocketing back into the lockers. Rafael was quick to get back up though running after Landon. "Scalare." The gate hidden in the corner of the school's hallway leapt out to the other side locking Raf in.
"Hope." Landon glimpsed you TJ for not very long. It wasn't like the boy just saved him or anything. Rafael —now on the ground — groaned lifting up his head. "How are you always in the right place at the right time?"
"That's funny. I was just thinking the exact opposite thing." Hope sent TJ a look, the boy throwing up his hands defensively. When the tribrid turned back to Rafael, his eyes glowed. Not golden like most werewolves did, they were red. Blood red.
Author's Note —
So, for one thing, I want to apologize. We had been traveling for the whole year, but for the second semester of school we stopped and started school. It's been a while, I know, but I've been so tired trying to get back in a routine.
I've been waking up at 4:40 every morning. Though, I still don't think that's an excuse. So, I'm sorry I haven't been updating. I can't promise that I'll start updating regularly, but I did want to apologize for the long hiatus.
