"When the light hits your eyes, it's telling me I'm right

And if I'm through, then it's all because you."

------------------------

Four other days passed. Four days of constant battling with hunger, thirst and love. Agustin captured my hand in his and pulled me to the side, “Look!.” He said pointing at something in the distance. I read the words engraved into an ancient rock, the letters curved and circled in perfect lines. It read, “The Choice.” Anxiety took the best of me as I set off running fast towards the sign ahead of me. Agustin’s heavy boots dug to the dirt behind me as he followed swiftly. This was it. We made it.

Agustin’s arms wrapped around my waist from behind as we stopped to a halt, right in front of the carving. He planted a soft kiss at my right cheek teasingly. His lips trailed to my left cheek but I jolted away from the merciless touch. I muttered a sorry as he shook his head in dismay.

The state was eerie and the surroundings crept darkly into my brain. Something was off in this place and I couldn’t help but widen my eyes at what I saw. The rock shaped like a sign, seemed to have a little carving at its edge. It read clearly, “Agustin.” Agustin cleared his throat and stepped towards it, his hand tracing the new carving. It slightly glittered under his touch and I gasped. Right under it, new letters were being formed on the antique stone. “Vivienne.” It said.

I had heard that the forests were enchanted but I wouldn’t believe it. Was this some kind of sick joke? Were “The Perilous” messing with our heads again?!

I couldn’t help but wonder at the possibilities as my eyes focused on the writing. There was a gentle tap on my shoulder and from the way the touch didn’t burn, I knew someone new has joined the show. I took shallow breathes as I turned around, my eyes widening at the view. A dark lean figure stood intimidatingly before my eyes. It was a woman, in a thin black cape its length brushing the dry soil. Her eyes were crystal blue shining under the partial light in the area. Her pale lips twitched to a smile. I stood my ground snapping out of my phase. “Who are you?” I demanded.

Agustin instantly turned around at my sudden outburst. I felt him hold my wrists and push me behind him protectively. I hissed at the merciless touch.

“Mates?” She asked calmly.

“Who the fuck are you?!” Agustin sneered.

“Mates.” She confirmed herself.

She pushed down the hat hiding half of her face revealing dull black hair. Her image was ghostly and unsettling. My senses kicked in, saying that she couldn’t be trusted.

I pushed my hair to the side and walked steadily towards her. Agustin was outraged but he couldn’t stop me.

“I know you can sense our power.” I spoke harshly.

She raised her head, her eyes focused on Agustin’s.  She held his stare and then her eyes blazed to mine.

“I can only sense vulnerability.” She stated.

“What do you mean?” I demanded.

“We don’t have much time!” Agustin’s tensed figure said.

“Don’t question me.” She replied raising a finger at us. The loose sleeves revealed a black curve on her arm. It was the sign of ‘The Perilous.’ She was one of them.

She saw where my eyes trailed and she smirked, an evil one. “I should give you credit Vivienne. But this tattoo is only a distraction and an illusion for them. I am not what you think I am.”

Agustin was growing impatient, and I was sure that if she weren’t a woman he would have lunged at her cruelly. I was raging at her use of my first name. This woman could either be someone or nothing at all.

“I only guard.” She said. She continued, “ There are too many passengers in this area. My only job is to protect this area and make sure everyone chooses the way and clear it out for us. You shall choose now.”

“Who are you?” Agustin asked with a shaky finger.

“I’m afraid I don’t know the answer myself.” She answered coolly.

Anxiousness stirred in me as I tried to comprehend my thoughts.

“You see, Alphas, I know you are mates. I suppose you have crossed all the way here to meet her.”

“Her?” I instantly asked.

“The embroider.” She replied, her dark eyes studying both of our bodies. “She fixes bonds. The most hazardous ones even. Follow me.”

I swallowed the lump in my throat as I looked at Agustin. I searched his eyes and they softened. They sparkled with what seemed as hope. There was hope for love. There was faith in touching him. Maybe he wouldn’t break me after all.

We came for The Perilous. He said in our mind-link.

I know.’ I said, my thoughts eating me up.

“Where are ‘The Perilous’?” Agustin requested.

“You need more time and courage. I’ll show you the way. Only one way. You can’t see both.”

She searched our eyes as my heart dropped. We had hope. Would I want to ruin that? It was my pack.

“Alphas, ‘The Perilous’ won’t have much time. Their leader is preparing for the attack, if you want to meet him you need to go fast.”

Silence.

I’ll do what you want Vivienne.’ He said.

‘I can’t be with you when it hurts this bad.’ I said.

The woman’s voice broke our mind-link, “I can see hope in the path you choose. Only if it is the right one.” She clarified.

“How do we know which one is right?” He desperately asked.

She merely shook her head, “You are Alphas. The Alpha always makes the right choice, eh?”

She was mocking us. She was laughing at the helplessness we held with us. I wanted to wipe that smirk off her face.

“Vivienne.” Agustin breathed next to my ear. I got weaker as the blazing passion to be his roared in me. “I’ll do what you want. I’ll do what you choose. I love you. I trust the strong and wise Alpha in this.” He said running his hand over my arm soothingly, only it couldn’t soothe. The touch of my beloved could only destruct me.

I was angry, so angry at everything. “Can’t you see it Agustin?! Can’t you see it! The only difference between weak people and myself is that I break down in private. I’m not strong. I’m not. And here you are killing me because I want to be with you so bad, I want you to enlighten my darkness.”

“I love you.” He mumbled as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. My wolf purred as his hot breath filled my senses and saturated my skin with content. My mate was there begging me to make the right choice. He believed I knew what was right. he believed that I could be able to choose: Him or The Pack? He has all this faith in me and I can’t see anything.

He has blurred the line of truth and tale and I’ve lost all my senses.

But oh how bad I needed them to make the right choice.
