He might be a lot of things but Liam was definitely not the most protective out of all of them. He won’t even begin to touch on the level of protectiveness Louis and Harry have for each other and usually Zayn had got Niall covered in that department.
But that does not mean that he wasn’t concerned. Because he was, very VERY, concerned. It was over the way Niall and Josh had been inseparable along the rest of their tour, it was over how Niall would jumped up Josh’s drum stage and hug him, touch him, basically throws himself at the drummer in front of thousands of screaming girls, it was over how Paul and the rest of the managers had started to question and give subtle hints. Liam remembered how it started for Louis and Harry thus he have got the worst kind of déjà vu going on right now.
Liam was concerned.
Even more so when the subject was brought up on their monthly group meeting with the management, it would be their last one before the last show in the states and finally be back home in England.
The meeting had gone down as usual at first; Louis and Harry being criticized for acting too obvious on stage and everywhere for that matter, earning them another slap on the wrists and new rules to abide to, Zayn for being photographed over and over again smoking publicly and sneaking out at night far too often, et cetera.
They were almost finished being silent and tired and bored when one of the managers suddenly turns to Niall and asked, demanded, “Explain about you and Josh.”
The tension suddenly rose in the room, Liam caught Louis’ fingers intertwined themselves to Harry’s as if they were braising for an impact, Zayn jumped slightly in his seat and his body subconsciously hovers closer to Niall who tried to sink himself into his own seat right beside the Bradford boy.
It was a moment later when Niall’s usually loud and confident voice rang through the icy cold room in the shape of a small chocked out mutter, “Nothing is going on, he was just helping me get through some stuff.”
That wasn’t a lie eventhough it wasn’t the whole truth.
The managers doesn’t need to know the whole truth though, they can tell Niall to do whatever they wanted him to do and both sides knows that, Louis and Harry being the beacon of example.
A paper was placed at the table space in front of Niall, “Look through this and sign it.” The tone was final and Niall was boneless when he picked up the paper obediently and looked through it.
Zayn, who was still hovering protectively all over Niall, read along with him over his shoulder, stiffening a loud gasp and eyes blown wide at the words on the paper.
“You have got to be joking!”
“She is the perfect girl. Niall had been vocalizing his crush on her for months now and she had responded similarly. The X-Factor is starting soon and this is great publicity for both of them and frankly Louis and Harry is enough, we don’t need another one.”
Someone muttered a mocking ‘one?’ but none of them were too bothered to figure out who.
Those words send realizations to Liam and he watched silently while Harry grasped at Louis’ fingers harder, muttering the name ‘Demi’ under his breath.
There was really nothing they could do but to watch Niall sign the contract, looking determined.
It was Zayn who voiced out what they all wanted to know, “How about Josh?”
“He stays of course,” One of the suits piped in, “He’s far too popular among the fans himself, he’s good for the band and the fans seems to love watching that twitcam you guys did together.”
