It was one of those days in summer that was perfect for swimming around in your own swimming pool. Zayn Malik, a twenty-six-year-old, single, interior designer was swimming around in his swimming pool when he heard light thuds of bare feet against concrete road running to the pool. He turned and saw a boy, a white nine-year-old boy in his Quicksilver swim trunks, holding his white towel in one hand as he ran towards Zayn’s swimming pool and made his way over to one of Zayn’s beach chairs.

"Hey, kiddie!" Zayn shouted, greeting the boy.

"Hi, Mr. Malik! Mom told me I have to be home at six for dinner!" the boy said cheerfully as he threw his towel onto the white plastic chair.

"Well, it’s only three. We’ve got plenty of time!" Zayn said as he walked in the water towards one of the four tile walls. Louis quickly made his way over to the pool’s edge and let one of his feet went in the water first just to check how cold it was. It was a bit cooler than the weather and felt perfect, so Louis let his body fall into the water, disappeared under it for a few seconds, before coming back up to the water surface. He shook his head and rubbed some of the water off his eyes and face, before pushing his wet fringe back.

"Today is perfect for swimming." Zayn said as he watched the boy as he started swimming around and let out a few sighs of relief at the coolness of water around him. Zayn started swimming around, too.

"Yeah. If my mom didn’t let me come swim with you, I’d have stayed in the shower all day." Louis kicked his feet a little as he swam. He was a good swimmer, but on this hot Sunday in summer, he would prefer swimming around lazily, so that was all he and Zayn did in their afternoon, swimming around and talking to each other until there was an hour left before Louis had to get home.

Zayn always thought of Louis as his little brother because of how the boy always liked to spend the weekends with him or how he sometimes would come to Zayn’s house and hang out with him after school. Louis’ family trusted Zayn. They had let Zayn babysit Louis for them for quite a few times and the two had become close. And lately, Zayn had felt lonely. The reason he had no one was because a non-straight person like him kept falling for straight guys, mostly guys with blue eyes, tan skin, and feathered hair. And it drove Zayn crazy how the nine-year-old had been giving him the funny feelings ever since the day Zayn first saw him.

Zayn knew something was wrong with him. He knew it was not normal to jerk off to the thoughts of the nine-year-old. He knew he wanted the boy. They were close, and Zayn wanted to know if the boy wanted him, too.

"You wanna stay a bit longer and have a milkshake before you go?" he asked just as they both were getting out of water.

"Yeah, sure. I’ve still got time, right?" Louis asked as he walked towards the plastic chair where he had left his towel and went to grab the thing.

"Yeah." Zayn grabbed his own towel, dried hair with it, before wrapping it around his shoulders. "Dry yourself and go in the kitchen, okay?" Zayn said and made his way into the house. Louis nodded, before throwing the towel over his head and started drying his hair. Louis then wrung water out of his dripping trunks and went after his neighbor.

He went into the kitchen and sat down on of the chairs at the dining table and watched as Zayn got the ingredients out in order to make milkshake. Louis had his chin in his hand when he asked, “Do you ever get lonely living by yourself, Mr. Malik?” with his innocent tone, and it would have been offensive if it wasn’t asked by Louis, the smart little boy who Zayn adored so much.

"Hmmm, no, I don’t. I have amazing neighbors." Zayn said with a smile in his tone as he poured milk into the blender, following by two scoops of vanilla ice cream.
